Being an advance technique, the imaging fusion is applied in biology cell images processing. The resultant merged image would contain more information than any of the individual image. It can match the images and improve the confidence of images and spatial resolution. In this article, a simple pixel based algorithm is applied to combine the fluorescence image and transmission image into a single composite image with extended information content. The method is also benefit to correctly judge the position of fluorescence and analysis of biological mechanism of fluorescence.

A model of neural networks and its learning algorithm suitable for optical implementation are proposed. As an example, the model is applied to recognize the projective image of three kinds of aircraft. Computer simulations and optical experiment have shown that this model can be successfully used to error tolerance pattern recognition of multiple targets with arbitrary orientations.

Study on nonlinearity of differential heterodyne interferometer indicates that nonlinearity of heterodyne interferometer drifts with thermal modulation. This drift of nonlinearity is of particular importance in nanometer measurement. Theoretical analysis shows that the ratardation error and orientation error of the wave plate are the main reason, its influence is in the first order. These conclusions fit well with the experiment results.

The physical process of partially coherent image formation in the projection lithography has been analyzed. It has been proved that the image intensity distribution in a partially coherent imagery system is the weighted sum of the intensities of the result from coherent imagery with respect to each point in the source. The physical mechanism of resolution enhancement by improving illumination condition has also been investigated. The results show that a partially coherent imaging system is practically a variable spatial frequency system. Frequency modulation can be realized by adjusting illumination function. New approach to resolution enhancement is given.

A high dynamic range acousto optic detector is demonstrated. The device have the capabilities for channelized detection of the amplitude, frequency, and phase of wideband rf signals and thus the capability to perform interferometric rf spectral analysis with significantly improved performances over the conventional AO Bragg cells. The device have provide dynamic range of 55 dB above tangential sensitivity, at the bandwidth of 20 MHz centered at 140 MHz at the optical wavelength of 0.6328 μm, the optical power of 1.0 mW, and the drive power of 50 mW/rf signal input. Two RF singnals of equal strengths and with frequencies f 1 and f 2 were applied simultaneously to the signal Bragg cell, the device dmonstrated dynamic range of 50 dB and frequency resilution of 10 kHz.

On the basis of the relationship between the point spread function (PSF) and the small angle scattering function (SASF) of the sea water, A new type of scatterometor for measuring SASF of sea water in situ was built. It can measure F PSF of the sea water body using this instrument and the calculated SASF of seawater from PSF data. The angular resolution is 0.01°, accuracy is 5% and the structure is simple and steady. The data of small angle scattering of sea water in typical area of the East China Sea was abtained.

A model to predict the xenon flashlamp output spectrum, LC net circuit and inversion quantity during the pump has been established. The model has been examined by calculated and experimental results. The input power per unit wall area is more useful to describe the output spectra of flashlamp than current density which is used by previous studies. The spectral efficiency of flashlamp will fall as the input power is increased. It is concluded that the instantaneous output spectra and radiant efficiencies of flashllamp with different bore diameters are nearly identical at quasi stationary conditions compared with that at the same input power per unit wall area of the bore. It is also shown that (1) spectral efficiency and radiant efficiency of flashlamp will decline at the same current density as the bore diameter of flashlamp is increased, (2) peak current density of step line pump equals to 90 percent of one net circuit at the same pump width and so with higher efficiency, (3) inversion efficiency will adds 5 percent when pump width reduces 10 percent, which is good agreement with experiment.

A shipboard multi parametric active passive blue green light ocean lidar system (BLOL) was developed, which can be used for the validation of remotely sensed ocean color in the East China Sea. The BLOL can be used for passive measurement of water leaving radiance L w and active measurement of the diffuse attenuation coefficient k(532 nm) and chlorophyll a concentration C. The lidar system was installed on the research vessel (about 2500 t) of Ocean University of Qingdao. The experiment was conducted at 21 stations. The experiment region is between Shanghai and west Okinawa. The results measured by BLOL were consistent with those obtained by using traditional method.

Parametric gain and optical intensity distribution of signal has been obtained by numerical method. The results show that parametric gain is higher and the beam quality is better in noncollinear phase matching configuration than in collinear phase matching. It′s more suitable in fs optical parametric oscillator (OPO).

Using the similarity between the time and space and adopting the ray trace method, the analytical solutions to the equation of the propagation of chirped pulses inside the temporal lenslike media have been deduced. With the aid of the solutions, the periodic variation features of the chirped pulses traveling inside the temporal lenslike media have been specified, especially evolution of the pulse width and chirp parameter with the propagation distance analyzed. Also, comparisons have been made between the soliton like waves traveling inside the temporal lenslike media and the solitons propagating inside the Kerr media.

A representation of the Jones vector for laser beam, which comes from a stabilized longitudinal Zeeman laser with frequencies ω 1 and ω 2 and circular left right handed polarizations, and the rigorous formulas of the beat photocurrents for reference beam and signal beam in the heterodyne optical fiber sensor are presented. These formulas cover all informations of phase delay and change of polarization states for these beams caused by all optical elements in the sensing system. Therefore, they can give phase difference formula fitting well with experimental results, and can also be used for explaination of some physical phenomena occured in experiments.

Ag doped ZnO film, a new kind of gas sensing optical thin film, was deposited by reactive rf magnetron sputtering technique as well as pure ZnO thin film. The transmission spectra to NO x of these films were measured, then the variation of sensitivity was derived from the transmission spectra. It was found that the sensitivity to NO x of Ag doped ZnO films was higher than that of pure ZnO films. The best sensitivity to NO x was achieved with a 5% Ag doped ZnO thin film, which was examined by auger electron spectroscopy (AES). The gas sensing transmission properties were analyzed by considering the Langmuir type adsorption equilibrium relation and it was shown that the theoretic analyses were excellently coincide with the experimental results.

Sol-gel technique was used to prepare thin films of CdS microcrystallite doped SiO 2/TiO 2 glass onto soda lime glass substrates. Ti(OBu 4), TEOS and Cd(CH 3COO) 2 were used as starting material for preparation of SiO 2/TiO 2 films in the attempt to optimize both thickness and optical properties. Thioacetamide and thiourea were used as internal source of sulfur to transform the Cd(CH 3COO) 2 into CdS to enhance nonlinear optical behaviors. The presence of the CdS microcrystallites in the films was verfied by using Raman spectroscopy. The evidence of size effects was apparent from the absorption spectrum of the thin films. The nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of the thin films were tested by Z scan technique.
