The effects of various factors such as interaction length, losses in Kerr medium and incident-beam intensity on self-diffraction efficiency are studied by using theoretical model on for ward-four-wave-mixing. The effects of phase-modulation, phase-mismatch andtwo-wave-mixing terms are clearly identified. Further theoretical analyses are given.

The wide band characteristic of fused fiber couplers is studied in this paper. Two fibers of stepping refraction index with different thickness at the coupled zone made by itching method are used to from an unsymmetrical arm. Thus a single mode directional fiber coupler is obtained with wide band and smaller size. Experimental results show that the coupled power can be flat distributed near a given wavelength and <100% splitting ratio by controlling the coupling length. A wide band coupler with different splitting ratio can be obtained by controlling the dianeter ratio fo two coupled arms.

One of the limitation of speckle correlation interferometric techniques including shearography is that the rigid Any motion yields decorrelation of speckle patterns before and after deformation which results in the deterioration of fringe visibility. This peper proposes a method which can effectively tolerate rigid they motion. It involves rearranging the recorded speckles before and after deformation in order to enlarge the speckle size, averaging speckles to improve the quality of fringe Patterns, and reconstructing fringe patterns and iteration of smooth to further suppress the speckle noise to obtain decent result.

In consistent with the human visual characteristic, a new transform method of color space is presented on the basis of CIE international color standard system and Munsell color system. This method is suitable for color image enhancoment processing and greatly increases the detail resolution of gastroscope color image without destroying the color balance. It has been proven to be a high practical color space transformation and color image processing method.

A direct twos complement parallel array multiplication algorithm is introduced for digital optical computing without carries. In contrast to the conventional 2' s complement algorithm, the proposed version has no restriction on the bit number of the operands and uses space bandwidth product more efficiently. On this basis, complex operation is available with a two-stage array architecture. Correspondingly, an optical experiment is demonstrated.

Optical interconnection networks have important potential applications in the fields of super-computers and photonic switching network systems etc. Based on the prism gratings and the 65 ×65-array Dammann grating designed and fabricated by us, we implemented the 64 ×64 crossover interconnection functions by using free-space optical interconnection technology. Calculations about output patterns of crossover interconnection functions have been made, which are agreement with our experimental results.

A ten-element InGaAs strained-layer single quantum well laser phased array coupled with corner reflectors (CRLA) was designed and fabricated by using reactive ion etching (RIE). A far-field pattern with main single lobe was obtained in a larger current range up to 4 ×threshold. The narrowest beam width measured for the main lobe was 0.64°, near the diffraction limit. The mode characteristicsof CRLAs were analyzed and simulated by using the Perturbation theory, taking into consideration the inter-coupling between longitudinal and lateral modes caused by the corner reflectors, and the anti-index guiding caused by carrier injection into InGaAs active layer. The results show that the coupling with corner reflectors is a new kind of coupling mechanisms for phase-locked laser array; and the main lobe corresponds to in-phase locking, while the side lobes correspond to the higher order eigenmodes, as the result of periodical perturbation.

The operating characteristics of the two-medium laser amplifier are simulated numericaaly for the first time. It is shown that the two-medium laser amplifier can satisfy the requirement of both high energy extraction and ultrashort pulse amplification. Some schemes are suggested for solving the problems which may arise in the related experiment.

Based on the hollow cathode (HC) effect and the pseudospark empirical formulus, various data including the HC and the cathode-anode distance, the working gas pressure region are given. The general experimental scheme of a high-brightness PS-produced electron beam source is shown.

In this paper we discuss the polarization characteristics of a He-Ne laser with a rotatable quartz plate in its cavity (LRQP). We have found that the output of the LRQP is two mutually Perpendicularly plane polarized light. Most importantly, it is obsevered that the polarization orientations of the front beam and the back beam from laser tube are different. There is a relative rotatory angle between them. When we rotate the quartz, the polarization orientations of both the front beam and the back beam vary with the rotation of the quartz plate. And the relative rotatory angle between the front beam and the back beam changes too.

A three-temperature-zone gradient transport technqiue has been developed for growing qualified BaTiO3 crystals. The lowest temperature zone (A zone) is the surface region, where seed is continuously lifted. The highest-temperature zone (C zone) lies on the middle of the crucible, where the temperature is the highest so as to dissolve the cyrstal embryos and clusters removed from the nutrient. The bottom of the crucible (B zone) is filled with nutrient, which is hotter than the surface region. Samples of commercial BaTiO3 photorefractive crystals are routinely grown with dimensions of approximately 30 mm×30 mm×15 mm. Lattice constants and DTA of BTO measured.

EPR studies on Ti:Al2O3 crystal with different orientations of the optical axis of c with respect to the septic magnetic field were performed at 93 K and room temperature. A strongly anisotropic resonant line at 93 K with g=2. 00, and lines with g = 2. 00 at room temperature were attributed respectively to the electronic spin transtions of the first and upper excitation energy level 1E1/2 and 2A1 of the ground state of Ti3+ ions in Ti:Al2O3 crystal. The assignments were in agreement with both the far infrared spectral measurements and g factor calculations using crystal field theory.
