In this peper, the dynamic response of a fiber optic ring resonator (FORR) is investigated by considering a sinusoidal phase modulation. The modulation frequency is from 55 Hi to 300 KHz and the amplitude is rs. The steady fsctor and dynamic factor in a sinusoidsl phase modulation and a sawtooth wave Phase modulation is analyses. THe theoratical and experimental results are given.

The effectS of the coherence of X-ray beams on the resolution of X-ray holograms are theoretically analyzed. The concluSion is that the temporal coherence length required for X-ray beams is a quadratic function of the resolution and the size of specimen in X-ray lensless Fourier transform holographyj and the temporal length required for X-ray beams is proportional to the square of the resolution in X-ray in line holography.

Optical wavelet transform (WT) with joint transform correlator (JTC) was described in this Paper. Haar wavelets and Roberts filters, respectively, were put together with an object image as a joint image. At the output plane of the JTC, the WT of the object was obtained, the features, such as corners, edges, sharpening images, of the object were extracted. These features will be useful in post-pattern recognition. A programmable optiCal joint wavelet transform system was proposed in this paper, which can be used to realize “true” WT of an object image. Digital simulation results are provided.

A novel line focus System for x-ray laser research is suggested. It is composed of a fair of cylinder lenses arrays and a aspherical lens. The line focus is illuminated uniformly, and it' s length is continuously tunable. The intensity distribution along the line focus is analyzed in details with physical optics method. The results are compared with other line focus techniques.

Nd: BGO is a promising laser crystal as well as a useful magneto-optic medium. A diode laser pumped Nd: BGO laser at 1. 04 μm has been succeeded for the first time. CW output power of 40 mW with TEM00 mode and efficiency of 13. 3% have been obtained. The pumping threshold is 25 mW. Using the faraday rotational effect, we calculated the parameters of the diode laser pumped self Q-switched Nd:BGO laser. In which the magneto-optic modulator consists of the Nd:BGO crystal itself and a Brewster glass plate. Pulsed energy of 2 μJ with width of 100 ns has been detected at a repetition rate of 1 kHz.

In this paper, starting from analyzing the normal triple prism and other polarizing elements, we have studied both theoretically and experimentally the polarization properties of two novel prism resonators used for slab lasers, i. e., the coaxis resonator with a compound total internal reflection (TIR) prism and a mirror, half o f which has reflectivity R and the other half has a high-reflection coating (R/HR mirror), and the folded resonator with a compound TIR prism, a normal triple prism and a R/HR mirror.

Time-resolved deSenerate four-wave mixins experiments were conducted on toluene solutions and film of C6o using the second harmonic generation of a 50 picosecond mode-locked Nd: YAG laser. A fast nonlinear optical response was observed from both Ceotoluene solutions and C6o film, and another iong-lived comPOnent was observed only from C6o toluene solutions. The near resonant third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of Cio estimated from the experimental result of the film is about (3.6±1.4)×10-10 esu.

We report the experimental resultS of second-harmonic seneration (SHG) in the silica optical fiber using the prepared method and the microstructure change inner the fiber observed by the transmission electron microscope (TEM). A little of crystal in the fiber is observed. It is the structure change in the crystals after prefered the fiber that induced SHG.

Nonlinear distortion in semiconductor lasers has been analysed theoritically and the Formulas and charateristics of second order and third order distortion are obtained. The theoretical results are proven by experiments. It is also shown that the second order distortion in home-made DH-GaAlAs semiconductor lasers is serious. but the distortion over third order is negligible.

In this paper, a brief and effective method-arithmetic mean thresholding is suggested for segmenting interference image of complex light interfereometer used in automatic measurement of surface roughness. The roughness profile information extracted from binary image after thresholding and calculated results of by sampling enough height deviation data from roughness profile coinside with those charted and measured by TALYSURF 6 profilemeter. This thresholding method are also suitable for segmenting interference image of laser surface roughness interferometer.

In this paper the formation theory of the digital shearing speckle interference fringes pattern is analysed, and the exact ralationship between fringes brightness and parameters of the TV camera numerical aperture etc. is obtained. A better digital shearing speckle interference fringe pattprn, indicated by the theoretical analyses and experiments, can also be obtained by using a smaller numerical aperture and a He-Ne laser about 3 mW. The theory and results herein have a better guidance to the optimel parameters selection for making the digital shering speckle interferometric experiments.

Velicity bunching a phenomenon of the atoms bunched near a special velocity in an intensive laser standing wave with negative detuning is studied. The velocity bunching results from laser cooling and heating of two-level atoms cooperatively. When the atomic velocity is lower than a critical velocity, the force will heat the atoms, and when higher than the critical velocity, the force will cool the atoms and then the atoms will be bunched at this critical velocity.

Axial and radial distributions of emission spectral intensities from XeCl excimer laser induced plasma near YBa2Cu3O7-xsuperconducting forget surface were measured by using an Optical Spectroscopy Analyzer (OSA). The ansular distributions of excited species in the plasma plume were obtained with curve sitting method on the assumption that each kind of excited species had corresponding uniform radiation probability over the plasma region respectively. The plasma plume exhibited a cos n θ spread and the value of n is between 2.78 and 7.63. The results were investigated as the functions of laser spot energy density and background oxygen pressure respectively.

A combination of multichannel quantum-defect theory with the K reaction matrix has been used to imvestigate the influence of high-l 3pnl, (l=4) configuurations on the Mg 3pnd (j=3) autoionization spectra. The introduction of the 3Pug (J=3) configurations allows us to construct a complete model of the 3pug (J=3) autoionization process. Physical mechanism of some experimental phenomena have been related to the derailed structures of the autoionization spectra. Our theoretical results agree well with the published experimental spectra.

A new method for obtaining the analytical dispersion characteristics of planar waveguides with arbitrary refractive index profile is presented. The method is based on the transfer matrix theory and a new interpretation of the WKB approximation is proposed. A comparison with other methods and the exact numerical results shows that our method is much more accurate than the ordinary WKB method and other existing approximate methods.

We demonstrate that with the time-delayed mathod the Raman-resonance hidden in the thermal background can be revealed and the Raman-enhanced nonlegenerat6 four-wave mixing spectrum converts to a normal asymmetric lineshape with foe nonresonant background originating from the molecular-reortenactional grating. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

X type crossing waveguide structures constructed by large single-mode rib SOI (Silicon-on-insulator) waveguide have been fabricated. The SOI structure is formed by SDB (silicon wafer direct bonding) process. When crossing angle of the crossing waveguides is equal to 2°, their crosstakles is below to -20 dB, their radiation losses is below to 0.3 dB, and their propegstion losses of the direct channels are measured to beapptoximately 0.85 dB/cm at a wavelength of 1.3 μm.

The Stark spectra of Yb atom with m= 0 in the vicinity of n-18 wereobtained by using two-step excitation of π π polarized lasers in the applied electric field from o V/cm to 1514 V/cm. The method based on diagonalization of the energy matrix with the Stark effect was applied to Yb atom. The theoretical Stark map agrees with experimental Stark map. It is observed that Stark manifold exhibits linear structure with theincrease of the electric field in the low-field region. A large oscillator-strength transfer between 1P1 state and nearby Stark manifold occurs in the course of anticrossing. The dependence of level-structure on quantum effects is discussed.
