High Power Laser Science and Engineering

Dr. Andreas Döpp, Emmy Noether Group Leader and Lecturer at LMU Munich, has co-authored a perspective article featured on the cover of APL Photonics' July 2024 issue. The article, titled "Space-time characterization of ultrashort laser pulses: A Perspective," provides an overview of the current state and future directions in measuring the complex spatial and temporal properties of ultrashort laser pulses. Ultrashort laser pulses are critical tools in many areas of science and technology, from studying ultrafast chemical reactions to developing new medical imaging techniques. However, accurately characterizing these pulses in both space and time remains a significant challenge. The article, co-authored with Benjamín Alonso and Spencer W. Jolly, discusses recent advancements in measurement techniques, including the integration of machine learning approaches. It also explores challenges in extending these techniques to different wavelength regimes and characterizing complex polarization-structured beams.
