We invite applications for a PhD position in the DualTech–USPL Group at the University of Adelaide, working in close collaboration with HB11 Energy. The project will focus on the development and application of high energy lasers for proton acceleration, contributing to next-generation fusion energy concepts.
PhD Position: High Energy Lasers for Proton Acceleration
Areas of interest include:
High-power laser physics and photonics
High energy density IFE-relevant laser plasma and plasma-based particle acceleration.
Precision mechanical engineering (cooling, opto-mechanics)
Electronics and control systems for laser operation
The successful candidate will:
Conduct experimental and applied research with high-energy lasers
Develop, assemble and operate muti-TW laser-matter interaction facility
Work in an interdisciplinary team across academia and industry
Access world-class laboratory facilities and collaboration networks
Eligibility:
Applicants should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, optics, mechanical engineering, electronics, or a related field. Strong motivation and an aptitude for experimental research are essential.
Scholarship:
The position is for 4 years and comes with a full PhD scholarship (stipend) plus a competitive top-up scholarship to support outstanding candidates.
