The optical beam propagation equation is solved by finite difference iterative method. The effect of the cross angle on the ratio of field intensity in the branch is studied about the 1×2(Y type) and 2×2(X type) couplers. The simulation results show that only the cross angle was controlled in a scale, the intensity ratio(1∶1) can not be effected in the branch of coupler. And the 2×2 coupler is sensitive to the cross angle and coupler width. It is a basic theoretic analysis for machining the passive fiber components with femtosecond laser.

The range gated imaging system combines the technologies of pulsed laser illuminating and range gated ICCD. To measure and evaluate the resolution of range gated imaging system under certain atmosphere conditions, a simulating measurement setup is designed. Two light sources are used for simulating the signal and backscatter light respectively. Based on the method of equivalent irradiance on photo cathode, the methods of power calculation and power range determination for simulating light sources are provided. In the case of image intensifier using S 20 photo cathode coupled with CCD, based on the model of optical backscatter and signal for range gated imaging system, the power of simulating light sources are calculated.

A simple erbium doped fiber laser configuration for achieving stable dual wavelength oscillation at room temperature is proposed. In this configuration, a fiber Bragg grating written in a polarisation maintaining fiber as the wavelength selective component is used. Stable dual wavelength oscillation with a wave spacing of 0.52nm at room temperature can be achieved through adjusting the state of polarization controller. An amplitude variation within 16 scans time is less than 0.2dB for both wavelengths.

Methods of chaos controlled with coupling polarization and fractional polarization are presented. The coupling polarization controlling can control the coupling interaction to control chaotic lasing, and the fractional polarization controlling can control the fractional coupling polarization effect to control chaotic lasing. Numerically simulations illustrate that chaos laser can be controlled into stable states and periodic states by parallel adjusting the direction of the two coupling polarization, or adjusting the direction of the fractional polarization of a ring in dual ring erbium doped fiber. The methods can be real time dynamically effectively control chaotic lasing into stable states and periodic states by adjusting real time optical polarization angle.

Two very pithy and powerful analytical expressions for saturated signal gain and signal output power of fiber optical parametric amplifiers are educed with numerical analysis. Those are realized in three steps, first, a series of numerical values are worked out by numerically solving the couple NLS equations that governed the fiber parameter process. Then the function form for saturated signal gain is figured out by control variates method. At last, adopting least square method, three coefficients are finely obtained with the maximum relative error (in terms of calculated saturated signal gain with numerical integration) no more than 0.46‰. At the same time, the analytical expression for saturated signal output power is worked out as well. Results of this work agree well with existing experiment results.

The typical insertion loss and isolation of the developed isolator are as good as that of the conventional optical isolator in theory. It was experimentally confirmed that forward insertion loss of two channels at 1550 nm are lower than 0.28 dB and 0.11 dB, backward isolation of that are over 55 dB and 54 dB respectively. It′s most important that the isolator, which can be fabricated with duplicated function and high characteristics, also have a low cost and a small volume comparatively.

A new scheme with the integration of optical and electrical QoS control for the next generation IP/WDM networks is developed. Integrating differentiated model based on generalized multi protocol label switching (GMPLS) technologies is proposed, and new service classification strategies and service mapping strategies are also provided. The proposed QoS control methods in this paper have the unique features of optical electrical integrating differentiated service model, intelligent control for multi granularities multi priorities applications, and the compliance to meet carrier class service level agreement, which capture the better tradeoff between the finer QoS granularity of IP layer and the coarse QoS granularity of optical layer to support multiple levels of service performance. Furthermore, the proposed scheme provides much lower complexity, better robustness and scalability, which seems to be preferred for QoS provisioning in the future multi service IP/WDM networks.

Oriented to the demands of hyperspectral RS information processing and applications, spectral features in hyperspectral RS image can be categorized into three scales: point scale, block scale and volume scale. Based on the properties and algorithms of different features, it is proposed that point scale features can be divided into three levels: spectral curve features, spectral transformation features and spectral similarity measure features. Spectral curve features include direct spectra encoding, reflection and absorption features. Spectral transformation features include Normalized Difference of Vegetation Index (NDVI), derivate spectra and other spectral computation features. Spectral similarity measure features include spectral angle (SA), Spectral Information Divergence (SID), spectral distance, correlation coefficient and so on. Based on analysis to those algorithms, several problems about feature extraction, matching and application are discussed further, and it proved that quaternary encoding, spectral angle and SID can be used to information processing effectively.

Abstract Photoelectric characteristics of SiC1-xGex/SiC heterojunction diode were simulated using MEDICI tools, and the simulation results are presented and discussed in this letter. The abrupt heterojunction diode is composed of a 1 μm thick heavily doped n-type SiC layer and a 0.4 μm thick lightly doped p-type SiC1-xGex layer with varied composition ratios. It has been shown that photocurrent of the p- n+ SiC1-xGex/SiC diode is not decreased apparently by change the composition ratio from 0.2 to 0.3 for the applied reverse-bias voltage of 3 V and the incident light intensity of 0. 23 W/cm2.Corresponding photocurrents of the diodes are 7. 765 × 10 -7 A/μm and 7. 438 × 10-7 A/ μm, and the longest wavelength limits are 0.64 μm and 0.70 μm, respectively. It has also been shown by the simulation results that p-i-n structure composed by adding a p + -SiC1-xGex thin layer on top of the lightly doped p-type SiC1-xGex layer is much better for obtaining a higher photocurrent. Under the same conditions, photocurrents of 1. 6734 10-6 A/μm and 1. 844 × 10-6 A/μm can be obtained in the p-i-n SiC1-xGex/SiC diodes with x = 0.2 and 0.3, respectively.

The characteristic of X ray source is one of the most important parameters on the image quality of radiography. The X ray source is composed of bremsstrahlung photons produced by the high energy electron beam impinging on the heavy metal target. The effects of parameters (include radius and emittance of the e beam and the target thickness) on the characteristic of X ray source are detailed by means of Monte Carlo method. It is shown that (1) giving a e beam radius, the exposure at 1m from the converting target increases and the uniformity of exposure distribution becomes bad, when the normalized emittance of e beam decreases; (2) for a given normalized emittance, the exposure uniformity becomes bad, when the e beam radius increases, but there exists an e beam radius under which the exposure at 1m is the largest; (3) in the case of zero emittance, enlarging the e beam radius can slightly improve the uniformity; and (4) given an e beam, there exists a target thickness which causes the exposure at 1m

In order to analyze different performances of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) layer when it works in different conditions, an electronic model in Pspice is presented. Using this equivalent circuit, it is easy to simulate and analyze how a FLC layer behaves in different temperatures, different wavelengths of incident lights and different frequencies of drive voltage. According to the simulation, when wavelength changes within the range of visible lights, the response velocity drops as wavelength increases. As to the parameter of temperature, the velocity reaches its lowest when temperature gets to a certain degree. Meanwhile, the response velocity is greatly influenced by the frequency of drive voltage only when it is beyond its critical value. The result corresponds well with the reports of previous articles.
