A new method of calculating waveguide dispersion parameters is presented by combining results of Ref [3] with the Gaussian approximation. The influence of two usual Gaussian approximation methods on the dispersion calculation uses this method. A new definition of the spot size is introduced, and simple analytic formulas for the dispersion parameters of single-mode a optical fibers are given in terms of this new definition. The results calculated from these formulas are in good agreement with the numerical results.

In this paper, a new method for the white-light image processing using speckle modulation screen is presented. On the basis of the speckle effect of the coherent diffuse light, an optical encoding element called speckle modulation screen is fabricated, which can be widely used in the optical image processing with obvious advantages. The paper describes two experiments on the storage of color pictures and the equidensity pseudocolor encoding of the gray-level pictures.

A new method for pseudocolor density enoording is presented: phase modulation by sampling with a grating, bleaching the sampled plate and choosing the zeroth or first diffracyion order for white light illumination. The primary advantage is high utilizing efficiency of light energy, high color saturation, low noise, simplicity and versatility. The method has been applied to image processing in remote sensing and biomedicine with useful results.

The demonstration of two-wavelength backward reconstructed waves is reported for the first time in this paper. In doublet degenerate four-wave mixing, using lasre pulses from SH of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser system as a writing-beam and an object- beam, and a continuous Ar+-laser as a readout-beam, a reconstructed wave at 532.0 nm is obtained besides a reconstructed wave at 514.5 nm which was observed in common doublet degenerate four-wave mixing. These reconstructed waves with different wavelengths propagate along different directions and the time oharacterd of them are different. These results are in agreement witih theoretical analysis.

High efficiency SRS (Stimulated Raman Scattering) in high pressure H2 was exited by YA.G SHG laser. Two orders of Stokes output and six orders of anti-Stokos output have been obtained and the corresponding wavelength ranges from 0.229 to 1.58 micron. The influences of interaction length and beam focusing on the threshold and the conversion efficiency is presented in this paper. Explanation of the experimental results is given.

A method of scanning-exposure to make up kinoform has the following advantages: continuous sampling and simple device compared with the method of sample-exposure. A schema for scanning-exposure was not affected by the imaging system. This schema can be applied to kinoform with separable variable.

The effects of both film material and every step of preparation technology process on the germanium film properties was described. The optimal experiment conditions to obtain the germanium film is provided. Finally, the experiments showed that the germanium is a crystal which lightly dissolves in the water, and hence the piebald phenomenon in the germanium film during the long period of applications is explained.

In this paper, the optical conditions for the optimum combination of a rotating mirror camera with shadowgraphic devices or a interferometer are described, and equations showing the relation among the optical data in the optimum condition of the combination are given. When the camera is used together with the shadowgraphic devices, another equation in the paper shows that the product of the three main parameters (maximum frame size, diffraction resolution, resolution and sensitivity) is always a constant, and that -fche optical system should be designed to make the three parameters optimally match, finally, the optical structure suitable for the camera that is used to be combined with the shadowgraphic devices or the interferometer is a]so discussed hero.

The spectral properties of UO22+ silicate glasses are investigated experimentally. The absorption spectra, fluorescent spectra, fluorescent lifetime -stimulated emission section ? and radiative quantum efficiency 77 of UO22+ silicate glasses are measured. The dependence of radiative and nonradiative transition probability on the temperature is discussed, and the curve of concentration quench and temperature quench is given. The results indicate that glass is a good host for UO22+. The lasing of UO2+2 dope in glass is prospootivo.
