This paper reports the use of propagsting beam method (BPM) to simulate and design the large cross-section single mode rib waveguides. The Fourier transformation is used to calculate the propagating constants of the Si waveguides. For the practical SIMOX and Si/GexSi1-x/ Si single- mode rib waveguides, Comparison of the performance differences and theoritical explanation have been given.

A new method of recording 2-D full-color hologram is presented, in which a new optical device ── three channels optical fiber faceplate is used as the color sepration and superposition of an image. By this method, the holography of recording 2-D fullcolor image with single wavelength laser can be simplified as well as the brightness and color saturation of the reconstructed hologram image can be improved.

In this paper, the effect of differential filter on joint power spectrum has been analyzed and so-called power spectrum differential filter is introduced. The function of this filter is real with some peculiarity, so it is easy to make. Computer simulations indicate that the performance of power spectrum differential filter joint transform correlator (JTC) is improved obviously than that of a classical JTC in the areas of peak intensity, Peak-to-sidelobe, half correlation width and so on. It will greatly enhance the reliability of pattern recognition. The experimental result is agreement with that of computer simulation. A new parameter is introduced in this paper that can discribe correlation better.

A new method for life- time measurement using two- photon storage is suggested. By delaying the time interval between shutting preexciting-beam and opening writing-beam and analysing the variation of efficiencies, we obtain the life- time of relavent energy level. The metastable life-time 4s and 2. 7 s of methyl orange (MO) and ethyl orange (EO) are obtained with this method.

Based on the fundamental concept of modulation, we have analysed the related facts and concluded that the modulation of acousto-optic sounding wave modulator is a broad frequency modulation. It is shown that the criteria of broad band modulation of this type are v<0.9 (v=2πL△μ/λ is the independent variable of diffracted light beam I(θ,t) ).A certain part of travelling wave is generally contained in the diffracted light beam of ordinary standing wave modulators. But in the range of Raman-Nath diffraction the diffraction angles abide by the formula sin θmi=±mλ/Λ, so that diffracted beams by both standing wave modulation and travelling wave appear in the same space range. In this paper a method of sprectal analysis for measuring the modulation index in the frequency-domain is proposed. The formulas of measurable values for zero-order and first-order diffracted light beams are given and verified experimentally.

In this paper we have studied the general optical properties of unstable resonators with thermal lens inside. Thermal sensitivities of magnification and output ray curvature have been defined they constituted the important design points for the unstable resonators. Furthermore, we have improved the novel rod-imaging unstable resonator based on these design Points.

Numerical simulating the change of M2Q of a TEMoo Gaussian beam after homogeneously saturating amplification versus parameters of the input beam and the amplifier was performed. Calculation shows that, laser amplification always deteriorates the input beam quality, especially when the ratio of the amplifier bore diameter a to the spot size ω of the Gaussian beam ranges about 1~ 4. To get an amplified laser beam with better beam quality, low input intensity, low total gain and large saturation intensity of theamplifier is prefered.

By solving Helmholtz wave equations numerically, the absorption, reflection and transmission of a plasma layer with different scale-lengths and thicknesses varying with incident angles and polarizations are studied. For smaller incident angles, the absorption by a short scale length plasma produced by a short laser pulse (~ps) is lower than that of a long laser pulse. But for bigger incident angles, the absorption of a short laser pulse is higher than that of the long pulse.

Through computer simulation, the compression of bright optical pulses by dark solitons in the normal group-velocity dispersion region of single-mode fibers is analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results show that the compression ratio and compressed peak power of the bright pulse depend upon the initial relative peak power of the dark pulse to the bright pulse. The higher the initial relative peak power is, the higher the compression ratio and compressed peak power of the bright pulse are. We found that, for given initial conditions, there exists an optimum fiber length at which the width of the compressed bright pulse is minimum and that the optimum fiber length decreases with the initial relative peak power.

A intracavity multiphoton absorber in driven optical systems is a effective means to depress the internal field fluctuation. To obtain the field with reduced noise in the good cavity condition. The high nonlinearity of multiphoton absorption is needed for a strong field, while for weak field the lowest nonlinearity of two-photon absorption in active cavity or non-absorption in a passive cavity are suggested.

Double telecentricity configuration of optical projection lenses with alignment characteristic through optical axis and uniform illumination principle of optical system for microlithography are discribed. To meet requirements of optical transfer function (OTF)for i-line lithography, the relations between photolithographic resolution and numerical aperture (NA) are discussed. As an example, we designed a new double telecentricity projection lens with NA=0.42, magnification M=-1/5, field size 15 mm×15 mm (21.2 mm diametre) and conjugate distance 602 mm. Optical design program ZEMAX-XE is used to calculate image qualities of the i-line lens. The calculating results indicate that the wavefront aberration 0.55 across the entire field when spatial frequency is 715 pl/mm and using wavelength is 365士3 nm. That means the photolithographic resolution of 0.7 μm could be realized. The illumination uniformizer consists of an array of 81 small square lens elements. The illumination uniformity of 士2% could be realized by using our simulation program OPENG to calculated light intensity distribution on illuminated image plane.

Light emitting diodes(LED) based on polymeric thin layer have attracted much interest and polymer LED emitting blue light is particularly desirable. In this paper, a newly dye and polymer complex teraphenylbutadiene (TPB ) doped Poly (N -vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as the emitter in electroluminescent device has been examined and the emission characteristics of the LED have been discussed. The electroluminescent diode consists of a thin polymer film sandwiched by indium/tin-oxide (ITO)and Al electrodes. Blue emission centered at 455 nm has been observed at room temperature. The maximum luminescent intensity of 44 cd/m2 at a bias less than 20 V and a current density of 50 mA/cm2 is achieved.

In this paper, we report out experimental results of optical second harmonic generation from clean Si(100)2×1),Si(100)(2×1)-H and Si(100)(3×1)-H surfaces. For the clean Si(100)-(2×1)surface and the Si( 100)(3×1)-H surface, the second harmonic Intensity decreased monotonlcall with increasing temperature. For the(2 ×1) monohydride Si(100)surface,the second harmonic intensity varied on the temperature not monotonkically, but has the maximum at about 470 K.Structure and sample temperature could be monitored by the second harmonic intensity and the tempeerature dependence of second harmonic intensity.
