The reflection phenomenon of the guided mode in SOI (Silicon On Insulator) total internal reflection optical waveguide switch is investigated based on optical tunneling effect due to frustrated total reflection and Goos-Hanchen displacement. The p-n junction large injection effect and plasma dispersion effect are discussed, and the electric characteristic of the SOI total internal reflection switch is studied. So, the structural and electric parameters of the switch can be designed.

The three basic image-template operations, which are defined in Ritter's image algebra, can describe many image traforms. In this paper, three operations are implemented with three step of image operations including: weighting, shifting and superposition. A two-layer optoelectronic architecture is provided: in the multi-imaging-threshold layer, two kinds of weighting are done with an space linear intensity coding methods; in the correlating layer, the images are shifted and superposed. The correlated result is detected by a CCD, and further processed by an computer. Experiments on 1D images are demonstrated.

The error of optical hardware, which influences the error probability of associative memory in Hopfield neural network, is analyzed by menas of statistical method. The approximate formula and modulation result of error probability versus hardware error are proposed. It is concluded that the error within some extant does not affect the error probability sharply. Especially, the required gray level of detector array can be much less than the maxium value detected. This is very significant for designing the optical neural network.

The spacial spectrum of the interferogram of plasma induced in air by high power infrared laser radiation is analysed. And the phase information' successfully is extracted from the interferogram by using high-order ChebyShev digital recursive filters and the phase unwrapping algorithm with ttrieshold auto-adjustment. The designing considerations of high-order digital recursive filters are described and experiment results are given in this peper. The results show that this approach can be used for extracting phase information from high-speed or instant optical interferograms.

A method of suppressing interference speckle pattern on the plane of target produced from the segmented wedge array (SWA) line focussing system is investigated. The small scale nonuniformity caused by speckle is un favorable to producing X-ray laser.By using special distribution of polarizations and phases, speckles can be concentrated in more density, and the contrast of speckle can be reduced, which would be useful to smoothing speckles by thermal conduction within the target. In particular, for the fourelement SWA system, the speckles can be even entirely removed by using the method presented in this paper.

Starting from a sum of Hermite-Gaussian multimodes, the mixing mode coefficient is defined and the accurate expression of mixed mode coefficient M is derived. A Gaussian--like distribution (GLD) or Gaussian--like born (GLB) is defined to describe and treat the mixed mode. The propagation and transfotmation of GLB in a homogeneous medium is discussed. Finally, a method for practiCal measurement of the coefficient, M, is given.

Through phase modulation of the ham incident on an optical cavity an error correction signal can be obtained from the phase dispersion characteristics of the resonator. By this means both a ring and a stationary--wave cavity have been locked onto resonance with a single mode laser.

The study on pinhole closure of diagnostic pinhole in the cavity heated by radiation is reported. Laser Wavelength of 1. 053 μm, energy 300-400 J, pulse width -800 ps with Gaussian shape are used in the experiments. Two laser beams drive the Cavity target with two source regions. The sub-keV X-ray spectrum from source region and implosion region were measured by two sub-keV X-ray energy spectrometers respectively through laser incidence hole and diagnostic hole. The pinhole closure problom was qualitatively analysed and discussed.

The optical properties and physical machanism of electron--trapping materials outputting red light were investigsted in derail. The possibility of image storage and parallel incoherent image subtraction was experimentally demonstrated, using electtontrapping film whose thickness is approximately 200 μm. The experimental results show that this material has many attractive advantages such as: erasable, rewrituble, high resolution, high speed, and capable of analog and peallel operations, for application in optical storage and optical processing.

The causes of substrate defer producing bit errors for magneto-optical disks are analysed, and the mathematical model for describing the relation of readout waveform diStribution and the foreign substance contained in substrates is establised. On the basis, an analysis of the relationships between runout signal distortion, bit error length and foreign substances is given by numerical method. It is shown that whether a foreign substance of some size causes bit errors or not depends on many factors, such as the distance of a foreign substance from the recording plane, and the distance of a foreign substance from the readout spot, as well as the readout threshold voltage.

We describe a subfringe integration interferometry for which the phase information is evaluated only from one interferogram. The initial phases are obtained by subfringe integration method, then the precision iteration to estimate the phase can be developed from the principle of least--squares estimation. In addition, the phase--extraction algorithm, error correction and some spplications to the measurement of the surface shape are discussed.

A new type of optical conformal transformation to form a given image pattern was suggested. The functional relationship of the propagstion between two parallel planes, element plane and image plane, was derived from diffraction principle, so that the distribution of the amplitude and phase on the original objective plane may be determinated by the given image-plane distribution. Several examples shown in this Paper indicate that it is a valuable design method of the diffraction optical element.

A new zero optical path difference (OPD) point positioning technique using diode lasers is proposed in this poper. With the linear frequency modeulation property of a diode laser and the technique of dual-wavelength refinemenr, the zero OPD point of a interferometer is dynamically searched with a very high accuracy of 0. 01 micrometer. Compared to that of the traditional white light positioning, the interferometer of diode laser positioning is simplified, and the searching range of the zero OPD point has been increased greatly.

Image distortion of the electro-optical tube X-ray framing camera becomes serious for intense X-ray pulse operation because of the space charge effect. This paper describes the characteristic of MgF2 photocathode and its first application in the framing camara. Dye-in-polymer (DIP) films consisting of Pr4VOPc dyes and PMMA polymer were prepared by spin-coating process. Pr4VOPc primarily precipitates as glassy solid phase I inside PMMA matrix during film formation. Upon exposure these films to organic solvent vapour, Pr4VOPc crystallines to a more stable phase Ⅱ, which has strong absorptivity in near-IR region. Orgsnic solvent vapour provides a medium for the soluhilization-crystullization process of the dyes, at the same time, plasticizes the polymer chains and makes all the dye migration motion feasible.
