A new technique for multiplex holography is proposed in which all reference beams are encoded and recorded by means of a rotating prism to modulate the plane reference beams. The reconstructed multiple images are situated in the same plane by the reconstruction of the spherical beams. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are presented and the experimental results coincide exactly with those obtained in theoretical analysis.

This paper presents a compensational filtering technique used for retaining the image edge information with respect to the directional filtering method to achieve optical digital hybrid compression ratio image coding. The optical filtering is employed to replace the digital filtering calculation, and the hybrid coding system yields the compression ratio for image coding as high as 30:1.

In this paper, a new method for microscopic imaging is proposed. It ingeniously combines the scanning optical microscopic imaging technique with imaging multi-spectral technique to generate a scanning and multi-spectral optical microscopio imaging technique. This method can simultaneously obtain several different wavelength microscopio images required for the same sample so that the information obtained are greatly increased, and the range of its applications can be greatly expanded. Principle and construction of the system are described and its image processing system is introduced. Experimental results are given and discussed in detail.

Hartline model, discovered form neurophyeiological experiments, reveals the principle of lateral inhibition which generally exists in neural system. In this paper we propose an optoelectronic arohiteture for implementation of Hartline model in which incoherent optical convolutor and polarization encoding method used to realize the convolution operation and the representation of weight function, while subtraction operation is still performed by electronic part. Preliminary optical 2-D image edge enhancement experiment demonstrates the versatility of the network.

In this paper, a modified model of optical neural network is presented. And a optical system with spatial light modulator PROM is designed to implement associative memory with the model. The results produced by computer simulation and by the experiment show that the searching identification of neural network 13 improved by the new model, and to a certain extent, its storage capacity is increased.

A new kind of fiber temperature sensor combined fiber interferometer with electrooptic hybrid optical bistable device is proposed in this paper. By counting switching pulses of optical bistability to measure temperature the measuring accuracy of this sensor is about 10-100 times higher than that of the common fiber interferometer sensor and which is adjustable. The experimental Simulation in principle for this sensor as been accomplished.

Using the nonlinear transmission (NLT) technique, the experimental investigation on. tlsrce-photon absorption processes in GaAs intrinsic semiconductor illuminated by a pulsed laser at 2.06μm is firstly described in this paper. Three-photon absorption and subsequent excited state absorption of the generated electrons and holes have been observed. Three-photon absorption coefficient has been measured and the experimental result is in good agreement with the theoretical value.

Regarding the speckle pattern caused by a coherently illuminated optical rough surface in the recording plane as a stable random signal, we propose here a new approach——the Electronic Speckle Pattern Normalized Cross-correlation Method or called as Electronic Speckle Pattern Photography (ESPP)——for the displacement measurement. This method, based on the normalized cross-correlation function, is the modified Speckle Pattern Correlation method in the application of the digital image processing technique to the speckle pattern metrology. Our experimental results show that ESPP for the displacement measurement has the advantages of measuring large-range displacement in high accuracy without loss of insensitivity to the environment disturbance and the quasi-real time processing property respectively as that the speckle photography and that in the electronic pattern interferometry.

A monolithic Nd: glass laser was pumped by home-made DH-LD Array with pulse power of 50 mW and wavelength of 800 nm. The laser output at wavelength of 1.053 μm was observed. The endpumped threshold is 9 mW. The spike power, pulsod width and relexation waveform are calculated and agree with experimental results.

This paper reports the generation of tunable radiation ranging from 196 to 228 nm by frequency-mixing with BBO crystal. The quantum conversion efficiencies of generation of radiation at 200 and 222 nm are 12% and 23% respectively, which are coincident with theoretical calculation values.

A novel nonlinear optical device has been constructed bassed on an optical beam erasing refractive index grating and two-beam coupling, The theoretical formula about the device has been built by using the coupling wave equation and band-transport model. An experimental demonstration has been done by using KNSBN single crystals and Ar ion laser. It is obviously shown experimentally and theoretically that the device possesses a threshold switching characteristic.

In this paper, the transmission spectrum, optical homogeneity, resistance of photore-fraction, frequency-doubling and self-frequency-doubling properties of Nd:Mg: LiNbO3 single crystal grown by us have been studied. A Nd:Mg:LiNbO3 self-frequency-doubled laser pumped by dye laser bas been reported. The self-frequoncy-doubling generation tinder noncritical phase matching has been realized and the second-harmonic generation with 542.2 nm wavelength has been obtained.

Numerical method has been used to calculate the P-polarized light absorption in plasma with a density cavity. It turns out that the peak absorption may approach to 100%, far above the peak of about 50% for linear density profile. If the parameters for the cavity are chosen properly, the curves of absorption coefficient versus angle of incidence appear double-peak structure. The density cavity plays the role of a resonator, the field reflected from the cavity interferes destructivel y with that reflected from the first reflection surface, giving negligible total reflection, and hence causing nearly total absorption.

Theoretical analysis of crystal clad fiber-optic polarizer is presented in this paper. At first, the anisotropic refractve indices of potassium pentaborate at long wavelength region were determined. Then extinction ratio variations with the parameters of single mode fiber and crystal were calculated for the polarizer with only one side crystal clad by using planar dielectric waveguide model, and the whole crystal clad polarizer by using W fiber model, The comparison and the discussion of these two types of crystal clad fiber-optic polarizer have been made.

In this paper, a grating optical bistable device is described. Changing the relative displacement between two symmetrical gratings, a periodic modulation of the light intensity is realized, Taking such a system as the transmission part and using He-Ne laser and white light, we have performed the optical bistable experiment. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical analyses.

Ultrafast carrier relaxation in AlαGa1-αAs/GaAs multiple quantum wells is studied using femtosecond absorption saturation measurements with an excited photon energy higher than that of the band gap of the barrier layers. Carriers generated in the well layers and in the barrier layers scatter out of the excited states to a quasi-equilibrium state in 30 and 130 fs, respectively. Carrier capturing from the barriers to the wells occurs mainly during the carrier cooling and recombination in the time scale of picoseconds.
