A special multi-mode eleotron-phonon coupling model has been used in the estimation of the Huang-Rhys S factors and the phonon energy in Or actived tnnable laser crystals by means of room temperature spectrosoopio data. The results are compared with those of the single mode opproximation by using the same experimental data. Finally, the relationship between the S factors and the crystal field strength and valent characteristics is discussed.

In this paper a new theoretical mode of a multifunctional crystal laser wag reported. The coupling wave-rate equations wore estiblished by using slowly varying amplitude approximation. The NYAB lasersswas modeled with a computer and the theoretical results were obtained. The threshold value and peak power of the lasers were discussed. Then the NYAB laser multifunctional effect was studied with a gaint pulsed laser (λ=589nm) pumped, the output peak power at 530nm was 37.5kW. The theoretical results is coincided with experimental results. Considering the deviation between the theoretical results and experimental results, some proposal about improving multifunctional lasers were raised.

Optical waveguide fluoride glasses face a number of difficult problems despite their potential for ultra-low loss. One of the most serious is scattering loss from defects such as inclusions, phase separation particles and crystallites. By means of a Leitz optical microscope, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope (TEM) and differential thermal analysis (DTA), we have investigated the phase separation and crystallization phenomena in ZrF4-BaF2-LaFs-AlF3 fluoride glasses. Phase separated particles, which formed via the nucleation and growth mechanism, were observed in the glass. The crystallites in the glass are confirmed to be beta-BaF2·ZrF4 and α-BaF2·2ZrF4. The activation energies of crystallization of these phases were determined by DTA.

Measurements of the electron density in a 5 kW CW transverse-flow CO2 laser gag discharge are presented. Experiments were performed with a single Langmulr probe. Electron density was evaluated using P. E. Smys' thick shealth expression for a flowing plasma. The spatial distribution of electron density and an analysis using the electron continue equation are given. In the condition of pressure 42 Torr, discharge current 20 A, the electron density is about 3×1011cm-3 and along the flow, the distribution was unhomogeneous, the maximum value occured at 3 cm from the top edge of the anode in the floe direction. The explaination of the experimental results is given by the continuity formulation of electrons, the theory coincides with the experiment.

Quadratic Electro-optic effects. The effects are induced in a centrosymmetrio nonlinear material by static electric fields produced in an axially symmetric electrodes system as those are used in a Penning trap. Analysis shows that we can get different type of effective lena with materials having different point group symmetry and geometric arrangement. We pay attention especially to those materials having m3m symmetry, which can be used to create effective static cylindrical lens. Estimation shows that with a piece of crystal of several centimetres size and a direct voltage of 104~105 Volts we can obtain a focal length of tens centimetres in the case of line focus.

In this paper, a new method of dynamic speckle photography——rotating speckle-shearing interferometry is proposed. The theoretical analysis and preliminary experimental results are presented. The advantage of this method is that a whole dynamic process of an object can be recorded on a single specklegram. In the whole-field filtering, the information of deformation at any instant can be easily obtained, and images obtained are quite clear.

An E. S. P. I. with polarization phase-shifting technique for the deformation measorements of diffused surface is presented. The high stability is obtained by adopting the common-path optical phase-shifting technique. A phase map can be precisely obtained from computer image processing technique. The precise data of surface deformation are extracted directly by unwrapping technique.

The stray light measurement is a difficult problem in specifying x the technical performance of a laser Raman spectrometer. This article suggests a new method of testing ultra-low stray light in a laser spectrometer. Experimental results show that, the stray light measuring limit of the order of 10-14may be achieved.

A novel transversely excited atmosphere carbon diaxide laser is described in this paper. It is constructed by common optical cavity. The device produces two pulses with adjustable time interval up to 150 μs under single excitation, which is obtained without gas flow. The design features of the construction and control circuit are presented. The experimental result and conclusion are given.

The absorption of Nd3+ doped glass is analysed on theory and indicates the reason of temperature dependent absorption of Nd3+. In experiment, the severeal kinds of probe with Nd3+ doped glass core are made. The experimental results agree with theory analysis. The results demonstrate that Nd3+ doped glass is one of superior temperature sensing material.

In this paper parallel sine waves producing on liquid suriace are acted as an ideal reflective grating. When the grating is irradiated by laser beam. (with certain wavelength and certain incident angle), the diffraction patterns are formed. The diffraction patterns characterize the physical properties of the liquid surface and gas-liquid interface.

Based on the bydrodynamio model the reflectance behavior of the TE waves on the metallic superlattioes is discussed by making use of the transfei matrix method, and the analytic formula of the reflectivity is presented in the case of ω>ωp. The interesting numerical results is shown for the special model of AB and ACBC structures, which provides an available new ways for studying and making of soft X-rays and extreme ultraviolet reflectors.

According to coupled wave theory, the volume hologram has a good property for light filtering and can be used as a kind of narrow-band filter. In this paper, the properties of holographic filter are discussed for its three main parameters: peak wavelength, bandwidth and diffraction efficiency. The design process of the holographic filter is proposed. The characteristics of holographic filter and its promising application are pointed out.
