This paper presents important applications for mid-infrared lasers with emission spectrums located in the 3~5 μm band. The latest progress of mid-infrared lasers research at is summarized, the principal technical approaches are compared and analyzed, the key technologies are summarized. Combined with application scenarios, the difficulties and characteristics of different engineering applications are discussed. The future development of mid-infrared lasers is discussed.
