When there is no control light, there is output signal light from the transmission channel, but no light from the reflection channel; when the control light is on, the signal light cannot be coupled into the cavity, the output is switched to the reflection channel, and there is no output light from the transmission channel. There is no direct coupling between the signal light and the control light.
