In this paper, we calculate the dispersion of a general grating pair stretcher by ray-tracing method. With the result we analyze the influence of relative position of stretcher on second-order dispersion and aberration. The dispersion calculation can be the basis of stretcher adjusting.

The focal depth distribution of confocal microscopes and it's influence on the vertical resolution are analysed with the three-dimensional pulse response function and the three-dimensional transfer function. The vertical resolution limit and it's criterion are also given. The theory result coincide with the experimental result.

According to the idea of “mode counting”, we give the formulas for the effective mode density in a rectangular waveguide, and analyse the conditions at different points of the cavity and simulate the mode density curves at singular points with computer. The effective mode density describes the spontaneous emission rate of an atom, so this article give us a general idea about the features of spontaneous emission of an atom in a rectangular waveguide cavity.

In this paper we report a new analyzing technique for optical switching in the nonlinear two-guide coupler proposed recently by Deering et al., and show some calculation results. The technique can provide valuable informatin about the phase variation, and deal with other kind of nonlinear two-guide couplers.

Time jitters in twin-core fiber is analyzed by using self-companying operator method through coupling nonlinear Schr"odinger equation. The results show: the time jitters relate closely with the input relative phases, the input amplitude of two solitons and propagation distance. There are apparent mode competition, periodic and non-periodic conduction of the time jitters in twin-core fiber.

In this paper, aone-dimension free-space-mode expansion method is used for calculating the coupling-lossof a total-metal RF slab CO2laser. The close relationship between waveguidecoupling-loss and the resonator mirrors' position and radius is discovered, and an optimalmethod to obtain minimum coupling-loss is presented.

NGAB crystal index n o,n e at some specifical wavelengths and its temperature coefficient, which are measuredwith the combination of minimum deviation and fixed incident angle, are reported. Thecrystal dispersion equation is given, and its phase-matching angle at the wavelength 1.064μm iscalculated. More than 5mW of the output power at 0.53μm is obtained from a NGABcrystal with volume 3mm×3mm×5mm, pumped by LD;its light-light conversion efficiency is0.5%, and the output at 1.064μm is 214mW, the conversion efficiency is 26%.

Taking into accountpressure broadening effect of IR pumping laser, the theoretical model of miniatureoptically pumped submillimeter wave laser was revised according to the density matrixequations. The theoretical calculation results gotten by means of iteration method were inbetter agreement with the experimental results.

The dispersedmicrostructure model for three-component metal-dielectric composite materials wasestablished, a convenient formula for calculating the effective dielectric function ofmulti-component composites was deduced. The theoretical calculations about the opticalabsorptive spectra of (Au,Ag)/SiO2composite films predicted the existence ofmulti-resonance absorptive peaks, which were compared with the measured absorptivespectra.

The stiff sodium borosilicate gel doped with Cd(NO3)24H2O and SC(NH2)2 were prepared by using tetraethyl orthosilicate, boricacid, sodium ethoxide, Cd(NO3)2.4H2O and SC(NH2)2 as precursor. The sodium borosilicate glasses doped with CdS microcrystals were preparedby sintering sodium borosilicate transparent bulk gels with CdS which was synthesized byreacting with H2S gas. The micro-struture of gels and glasses doped with CdS microcrystalswere studied by TEM method. The luminescence spectra of nanometer size CdSmicrocrystallites in glass were measured at various temperatures, the inhomogeneosbroadening constant of 150~meV was obtained. The third order nonlinear susceptibilitiesof the CdS microcrystal glass was characterized by Z-scan method, χ(3)is 6.5×10-12 esu.

It is very important for systems of signal receiving or infrared imaging in missile weaponry. Each key link for developing compound antenna of millimeter wave/infrared imaging is systemically analyzed in this paper. It includes four parts: an infrared imaging system, a millimeter wave detector, an optical scanner and an infrared detector. The designed method of optical imaging system and optical scanner have been described. This optical system consists of two aspherical mirrors i.e. Cassegrain system, the designed datas have been given.

In this paper, thetheory and experimental method of self-tuning of prism chromatic dispersion cavity arediscussed in detail. The computer control system for self-tuning is also elaborated. Thistuning method can apply to solid tunable laser. In experiment, this tuning system is usedin Ti: sapphire laser pumped with 532~nm of Nd:YAG mode-lockinglaser. It can realize output of wavelength range from 680~nm to 980~nm.

The contribution tothermal stability of an optical system made by the thermal expansion of lens housing mustbe considered in the design of an athermal space optical system. Each component of anoptical system can be determined by solving the equations based on the power of system, athermal and achromatic requirements. An athermal space system can be designed by a way ofabberation correction upon condition of fixed power of the components. The thermal affectof optical system of the reflective imaging spectrometer was analysed. The athermalobjective of an imaging spectrometer was designed by using this optical-mechanical-thermalintegrated design technique.

The validation of stratospheric ozone measurement by lidar was demonstrated by the comparison with ozoneresults of SAGE II and HALOE. The analysis indicates that ozone profiles by lidar agreewell with ones by SAGE II over the altitudes 18~37.5km, their relativedifferences were within 12% from 20 to 30km and less than 26.5% from 32 to 35km altitudes. The ozone distribution by Lidar and HALOE measurement coincided well with the relativedifference less than 15% in the range 20~32km. Intercomparisons of ozone profiles presented bylidar, SAGE II and HALOE measurements on the same or adjacent days, show the betteragreement in the stratosphere.
