A new kind of criterion for evaluating the degree of the similarity between two vectors in associative menorizing is proposed and accordingly, an experiment about the optical electric hybrid associative memory model with threshold modification using complementary vector is designed and implemented. This model is capable of control-eling the accuracy to retrieve vector and eliminating the possibility to read out erroneously.

An optical klystron confi uration at millimeter wavelengths has been investigated to improve gain and efficiency of the free electron laser. A computer simulation code has been developed, and it can be applied to design an optical klystron device. For a small period wiggler case with a sheet electron beam at 300 keV and A and a wiggler period of 3.7mm operating at 300 GHz, 27.9 dB gain and 0.5% efficiency have been calculated. With a beam at 450keV and a wiggler period of 1cm operating at 160 GHz, 32 dB gain and 2.7% effecincy hive bsen cajoulabed.

In this paper, we report for the first time the a aelfpumped phase conjugate mirror (SPPCM) with reflectance of more than 30 % has been made using photorefrao-tive crystal BaTiO3 grown in China. An experiment to recover a distorted image has been performed successfully using this mirror. Both the built-up process of the self-pumped phase conjugate signal, which depands on the intensity of the incident beam, and the angle between the incident beam and the crystal axis and the erasure rate of the SPPOM have been measured. We report also for tho first time a device whioh. can generate bwo or more refleobed phase conjugate signala simultaneously for two or more incident beams respectively nsing only one SPPOM.

Laser beam at λ=1.06 μm was used as fundamental wave to irradiate on the adsorbed layers of the photosynthetic pigment molecules (baoteriochlorophyll and phycocyanin) on the optical surface. The harmonic generation is observed. It is discussed that the adsorbed layer of phyoooyanin can generate only third harmonic (THG) not second harmonic (SHG).

A simple computer algorithm for propagution of ultraghort optical pulse in optical fiber is presented in this paper. Frequency modulation, spectrum broadening and square pulse pulse shaping are obtained for optical fiber with positive dispersion and the propagation of soliton wibh N = 1, 2 and 3 is obtained for a fibe with negative dispersion. The calculated results with this algorithm are well in agreement with that calculated by nonlinear Schrodinger equation.

The polarization property of the light beam carrying an image while passing through a multimode step-index optical fiber and its effect on the quality of the image tnransmission by phase conjugation are studied in this paper. The method of filtering the noise is suggested. With this method, main part of the noise can be reduced and the image quality can be improved. Both the theoretiial analysis and esperimentat results are given, and a transmitted image with a resolution of 40 line/mm is obtained.

Absorption spectra of aggregates of dye Langmuir-Blodgett films were investigated in different conditions. The typical aggregate of dye MOC (1-methyl-l -octadecyl-2,2 -cyaninpereh-lorate) appears an absorption band (J band) peaking at near 580 nm with absorbanoe of 0.09. The temporal effect of a new sample shows that it takes about 2 hours for the aggregates to be stable. Several parameters of J band of samples were measured, such as absorption peak position, absorbanoe and the width of band, as well as the temperature dependences of their parameters. The inyertibl? variation of the absorbanoe versus temperature in a physioal basic for the aggregate LB layer to "be used in optical storage. When the sample was heated at temperature over 100 ℃ the thermal invertibility of absorption broke down indicating a phase change.

The laser-inducea fluorescence (LIF) spectrum of Q-branch of C1∏u(v =0, J = 105)- X1∑g+(v"=1-10, J" = 105) for dimer 39K2 excited by 4415.6 A CW He-Cd laser was reported. The vibrational constants of X 1∑g+ and the Te value of C1∏u for 39K2 were obtained by last-square fitting. The spectrum analysis showed that the Te= 22968cm-1 of C1∏u for 39K2 was suitable. The Franck-Condon factors of the (v = 0, J = 105) - (v" = 1-10, J" = 105) transitions for dimer 39K2 were computed by using Morse potentials. The agreement between the computed intensities and the experimental ones was satisfactory. The analysis of r-centroid approximation showed that the changing ratio of the electronic dipole transition moment Be for dimer 39Ka was 0.157~0.168 detye/A(4.22 A<r<4.73 A).

Measurements have been made of the scattered field distribution of optical films. The interface cross-correlation properties have been determined according to the vector so ttering theory for multilayer optical coatings. In the case of a few layer number, the interfaces in optical films are fully correlated and partially correlated respectively at the lower and higher spatial frequencies of the interface irregularity. It is shown that the interface cross-correlation properties also depend on the vapouring techqiques used.

TeSeIn thin film is a kind of reversible phase change recording medium. Two kinds of TeSeIn thin films were prepared by thermal evaporation and magnebron spu btering methods respectively. Micromorphology and microstruoture of TeSeIn thin film were studied by TEM method. Using AES-PRO analysis, TeSeln thin film composition depth profile given and the diffusion profile of the interface between TeSeIn thin film and ZnS matching layer are given. The chemical shifts of binding energy of inner electron of Te, Se and In element in TeSeIn thin film are given by X PS measurement. A method for preparing multi-tjomponent phase ohange recording thin film with high quality and high stability is discussed.
