The thresholds of laser induced darkening in different optical and laser glasses irradiated by a 800 nm, 120 fs, 1 kHz Ti:sapphire laser are reported.

    When the atmospheric turbulence is weak and the detected beacon is faint, adaptive optics system need to work at partial correction with subaperture mergence. Based on the Hartmann Shack wavefront sensor of the 1.2m high resolution adaptive optics system at Yunnan Observatory, two methods of subaperture mergence are studied in this paper on the Hartamann spot centroid error, and some valuable results have been obtained.

    A novel phase demodulation technique in frequency domain based on wavelet transform is introduced. Handling the original modulated grating image with wavelet transform, the object background image is created. And subtracting these two images, a relative distorted grating image is obtained. The background components in spectrum of the relative image are basically removed and the useful one is leached easily. The steep gradient and complex object shapes can be measured automatically with this technique.

    A speckle imaging model for impulse coherent laser radar(ICLR) is derived, which proves the presence of multiplicative noise in images of ICLR. According to its statistical property, a parallel weighted average multidirectional morphological filtering algorithm is presented. Simulation result shows the algorithm can not only effectively suppress speckle noise in images but also preserve the geometrical features of images. Through comparison, it is proved that the algorithm is superior to F. Safa algorithm.

    By taking into account of diffusion, drift and the photovoltaic effect, the band transport equations are set up when the volume holography is recorded in doubly doped LiNbO 3crystals by using two color lights, and obtain the analytical solution of the steady state space charge field. The effects of the ratio of intensities of two color lights, the grating wave vector, the doubly doped concentrations and the oxidation reduction state on the steady state space charge field are calculated and discussed.

    The standard band transport model with mobile ions and the coupled wave equation under different initial intensity ratio and fixing temperature are solved by numeric method to study the dynamics of recording and thermal fixing photorefractive hologram at high temperature in LiNbO 3 photorefractive crystal. The theoretical thermal fixing time and the temperature dependence of the space charge field are obtained. During of recording and fixing the partial cancellation of proton grating and the donor grating causes the emergency of the net charge field’s extremum, and proton grating could also change the direction of the coupling between the reference light and the signal light.

    A statistical method has been developed to process thin samples photon image. In studying of ultraweak luminescence ( e.g. the cell ultraweak bioluminescence ), it is need to apply a image intensifier to get visible photon counting image. The photon images are unavoidably influenced by intensifier dark noise and background noise, which make the signal photons submerged in noise photons. According to the statistical difference of signal photons and noise photons, a signal test and evaluation method is given to test whether the photons belong to the signal photons and get a concise criterion. By this criterion the noise photons can be distinguished from original image and be discarded to get S/N improved photon image. Using this method a human palm ultraweak luminescence photon image is processed.

    A laboratory facility to measure and calculate the point spread function (PSF) and the optic transfer function (OTF) of seawater is described. The PSF and OTF are important parameters for predicting light propagation and imaging system performance. An image transmission method for measuring the PSF is discussed and the 1 D and 2 D PSF curves for various scattering water path lengths are presented. The OTF are also calculated by FFT from the data of PSF. Some results are shown, which agree with the theory.

    The design method of opticl coupling double Packels wedge encoder LiNbO3 crystal is proposed. The polarized light encoding theory in the far space field is analyzed. Its decoding process is realized by means of Jones matrix.

    A new technique of time domain 2 dimensional fluorescence lifetime microscopic measurement is presented. A fluorescence lifetime imaging microscope system and data processing method of this technique are described. Reference sample is used to test the system. Experimental results show that the temporal resolution of the system is 2 ps. When magnification of the microscope is 100, the spatial resolution is 8 μm. When a finer mask and a micro shift mechanical system are used, spatial resolution of less than 1 μm can be obtained.

    The linear electro optic measurement of poled polymer utilizing an asymmetric Fabry Perot (AFP) multiple reflection film was reported. The polymer spincoated on the high reflectivity (HR) glass was corona poled, and an asymmetric Fabry Perot film was form based on its own reflectivity and HR glass. An electro optic measuring system was established based on standing free technique of this AFP film and reflective configuration. The principle of the system was analysed in detail, and the voltage se4nsitivity about 5 mV/Hz 1/2 was obtained as 1 kHz sine input electric signals propagating on coplanar electrodes.

    An optical path splitting 2 D shearing interferometric opto electronic measuring system is introduced. The tests in two orthogonal directions can be implemented at the same time and the automation of data processing is achieved with the system and the simple method of digital integration can be well adopted in the wavefront reconstruction by taking a series of steps of removing noise and subtracting the mirror surface datum before and after the deformation. The measuring standard error is below 0.257 μm within ±10 μm range of the deformation and the sensitivity is 0.05 μm. The deformation dynamic tests of high power laser resonator mirror was successfully demonstrated in real time.

    X-ray interferometer, which takes silicon lattice spacing as length unit, can realize subnanometer displacement measurement. A scheme of pitch measurement of scanning probe microscope (SPM) master is presented by using silicon lattice scale and combining X-ray interferometer and scanning tunneling microscope (STM). The experimental results proved its feasibility.

    A high power quasi CW diode laser arrays end pumped Nd:YVO 4 laser is experimentally studied. Relationships between laser output power and average pumping power, temperature, repetition rate and mirror transmissibility are obtained. The maximum average output power is 11 W at the wavelength of 1064 nm for repetition rate of 720 Hz and average pumping power of 33.2 W.

    An electrooptically cavity dumped and Q switched RF waveguide CO 2 laser is reported. The cavity dumped and Q switched pulse laser output can be simultaneously obtained. The peak powers can be controlled by adjusting the voltage on the electro optical crystal. The pulse interruption can be changed by adjusting the pulse width of the voltage on the electro optical crystal. In this way programmable laser output can be achieved. In addition, a theoretical analysis is made on the cavity dumped process.

    High erbium doped fluoroaluminate, fluorozirconate and phosphate glasses were melt for waveguide amplifiers at 1.5 μm. The spectroscopic properties, concentration quenching and its mechanism were investigated and compared in these glasses with excitation of laser diode operating at 0.80 μm and 0.98 μm. The experimental results indicate that the quantum efficiency for the emission at 1.5 μm is higher upon excitation at 0.98 μm than that at 0.80 μm, owing to the much weaker excited state absorption (ESA) compared with those of excitation at 0.80 μm. In addition to the solvency of high rare earth concentration, Er 3+ doped fluoroaluminate glass has a much higher quantum efficiency and stronger fluorescence for the  4I 13/2 → 4I 15/2  emission at 1.54 μm than Er 3+ doped ZBLAN and PE glasses, and also has the smallest concentration quenching in these glasses. It can be considered to be an excellent host for waveguide amplifiers at 1.5 μm.

    Two magneto optic single crystal garnets Bi HoYbIG and BiGd:YIG with high Faraday rotation and low temperature sensibility were growth from high temperature flux. Magneto optic properties in ear infrared range of these two crystals were measured. Magneto optic crystal garnet Ho3xy Yby Bix Fe5O12(x=1.03, y=1.20) has the specific Faraday rotation θF of -891°/cm (λ=1.31 μm) and -767°/cm (λ=1.55 μm), and Y 3 x y Gd y Bi x Fe 5 O 12 (x=0.46, y=0.24) has -1067°/cm (λ=1.31 μm) and -882°/cm (λ=1.55 μm), both are much higher than pure YIG′s. Their Faraday rotations have low temperature dependence also, the temperature sensibilities are 4.60×10 -4 K -1 of Bi HoYbIG and 4.20×10 -4 K -1 of BiGd:YIG among 250~400 K. The results indicated that doped with Bi 3+ can enlarged Faraday rotation greatly, and dodoped with Yb 3+ and Gd 3+ can effetely reduce Faraday rotation temperature sensib

    The four wave mixing at intermediate region in Ce:KNSBN crystal was studied experimentally as a function of intensity. A theory has been built up under undeplted pump approximation. The experimental results using Ce:KNSBN crystal are in good agreement with the theory qualitatively.

    The sphere method is a newly developed technique for mesurement of nonlinear optical coefficients in crystals. Based on the theory of aperture function of the focused Gaussian beam SHG, the non phase matched (NPM) SHG process in a crystal sphere is analyzed, and the optimum focus condition of type Ⅰ NPM SHG is discussed. The experiment of NPM SHG in a LiNbO 3 crystal sphere pumped with a pico second laser pulse is reported. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical prediction.

    A novel compact optical correlator with a short optical path system and fold mechanical structure developed in authors’ laboratory for pattern recognition is introduced. Experiment shows that the optimized design of MSF by means of Monto Carlo iteration algorithm may greatly improve the accuracy of pattern recognition.

    The temperature characteristic of fiber optic sensor for high voltage within full range is analyzed. It is found that the sensitivity of the sensor to temperature depend on the magnitudes of voltage applied to the sensor. To realize temperature compensation over full range of the sensor, two key parameters must be acquired. One is the response of the sensor to temperature when voltage is zero; another is the response of the sensing material to temperature when voltage is applied.

    The conical refraction effect of biaxial crystal is studied deeply. Dynamic conic refraction of any conical angle within the range of 0~25° is obtained using KNbO 3 crystal with a single pin hole aperture. The principles of conical refractional scanning (CRS) and a novel laser CRS instrument are developed. Spatial CRS within modulated conical angle is realized.

    The laser induced collisional energy treasfer (LICET) is Ba Sr system in suggested, which satisfies the condition |ω21|》|ω43|. And the results of numerical calculations of the Ba Sr system are obtained from the four level model and the conventional three level model respectively. The results of numerical calculations in Ba Sr further prove the theoretical prediction that the four level model can be simplified as a conventional three level model if the condition |ω21|》|ω43| is satisfied.
