The mathematical model of high order local interconnected neural network (LINN) is presented. Computer simulations on its associative memory are carried out. The results show that high order LINN has a much small interconnection weight matrix and the same associative memory ability, on the other hand, a large scale neural network can be constructed by using high order LINN if the size of interconnection weight matrix is limited.

A real time optical correlator with high discrimination is suggested in this paper. In this correlator, a liquid crystal light valve (LCLV) is used as real time input and image preprocessing device. In recording hologram, a piece of photorefractive crystal (Fe∶LiNbO 3) is used as holograhic recording material and a convergent spherical wave as reference light wave. the correlator is characterized by high discrimination, real time and flexible processing, and compact constructure.

Water vapor high resolution spectroscopy were recorded with a cw narrow linewidth Ti∶Sapphire laser and a long pass absorption cell in 917~945 nm wavelength range. Measurements were made of line strengths with 4% uncertainty and air broadening coefficients with 6% uncertainty of 60 water absorption lines. Compared with Chevillard′s line strengths data, the agreement is good with average ratios of 0.0986±0.0685. However, the difference of air broadening coefficients is obvious between Hitran-92 database and ours, with average ratios of 0.0906±0.164.

Configurations of the three transmission gratings used in our laboratary are introduced briefly. Relative diffraction efficiencies for these gratings have been calibrated on synchrotron radiation source. With the help of grating model, the important structure parameters of grating are obtained, and absolute diffraction efficiencies for these gratings are calculated and discussed.

The influences of some factors of rod amplifier on its pumping efficiency are studied by numerical methods with certain radii of the rod and the lamps. These factors include the refectivity of the inside of its elliptic cavities, the cavities′ major and minor axises, the distance of the rod away from the central focus to the lamps, the number of the lamps and the structure of the glass tube for cooling the rod. The results are very useful for the design of rod amplifier.

The mechanism of the optical transition without phonons between the conduction band and the valence band in doped SiGe alloy is investigated, and the model of no phonon optical transition originated from the statistical distribution of the impurities is suggested. The dipole matrix elements of the transition are calculated based on this model and the upper limits of the dipole matrix elements are calculated. The mechanism of no phonon optical transition in undoped SiGe alloy is also suggested that it is the collectivity action of the deformation wavefunction around Ge atoms.

When stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is applied in laser drive system, it is necessary to consider the changes of SBS pulse shape, especially the leading edge shape, compared to pump pulse. For the pump pulse with several ns pulse width and 2ns leading edge, adding a small slow rising signal or a pre pulse at the root of pump pulse steep leading edge, then the SBS pulse shape is investigated for different two cell SBS phase conjugation (PC) mirror. The results show that the SBS leading edge shape can keep almost the same as the pump pulse for short amplifying cells and short focal length. The intensity ratio of SBS main-and pre-pulse is changed with different focal lengths for short amplifying cell.

A model was studied for embedded intrinsic and extrinsic Fabry Perot fiber optic sensors. This model relates the strains and temperature changes in the sensors to the reflected light intensity. The model consists of two parts. Submodel Ⅰ relates the temperature and the strains inside the sensor to the change in sensor length and to the changes in th optical properties of the sensor. Submodel Ⅱ relates the changes in sensor length and optical properties to the changes in the intensity of the reflected light.

A momentum transfer of a moving three level atom interacting slantingly with a standing wave laser field is analysed. The results have shown that a stimulated Raman transition will be dominated, when some conditions are met by both the atom and the light field. If the light field seen by the atom is a “π/2 pulse” light, the atom will be in a coherent superposition state after interaction, the one state is the same as the initial state of the atom, and another state is a new state in which the degrees of atomic internal freedom and the center-of-mass momentum of the atom are all changed, especially, the momentum is changed by twice single-photon recoil momentum. Nevertheless, the probability of the atom in the two states is the same. If this mechanism is used for atomic wave interferometry, it is possible that atomic wave packets are coherently splitted.

Based on the higher order uncertainty relation an alternative definition of higher order squeezing is introduced in this paper. This definition differs from C.K.Hong and L.Mandel′s. The criterion of higher order squeezing is the higher order fundamental quantum fluctuation of amplitude. We examine the higher order squeezing for the squeezed coherent states and the superposition states using this definition, and compared the results with Hong and Mandel′s.

The collapse and revival phenomena in the population inversion and the time evolution of the purity of an atom undergoing a two photon process are inverstigated when the cavity is supposed to be filled with a saturable Kerr like medium. This study reveals how the simultaneous occurence of two nonlinear processes and the saturation affect the atomic dynamics. Affect each other.

In this paper a four level model of laser induced collisional energy transfer (LICET) is presented in which the effects of the two intermediate states are considered. The equations of motion for the probability amplitudes of the four states are then obtained. And the analytical expression of the cross section for the LICET transition is derived. The results of numerical calculations in Eu-Sr and Cs-Sr systems show that the conventional three level theory cannot be expected to provide an adequate description of the cross section of the LICET transition if the frequency difference |ω21| is comparable to the frequency difference |ω43|. But the four-level model can be used to describe the LICET process in all cases.

The semiclassical density matrix equation of four energy levels was solved. Then by means of iteration method, the output power increment ratio of V 2∶a→s P(5, 4) to a→s Q(5, 4) transition in miniature optically pumped NH 3 molecules far infrared superradiant laser (mini NH 3 OPFIRL), which was pumped by CO 2 10R(6) line, was calculated. The calculation showed that the mode competition between the V 2∶a→s P(5, 4) and V 2∶a→s Q(5, 4) in superradiant mini NH 3 OPFIRL led to the elimination of V2:a→s P(5,4) and V2:a→s S(5,4) in superradiant mini-NH3-OPFIRL led to the elimination of V2:a→s P(5,4) transition branch. The theoretical calculation was consistent with the experimental result.

The structural features of the LB films of substituted fullerence C60-Be were investigated by π-A isotherm, small angle X-ray diffraction (SAXD) and optical measurements. We found that pure C60-Be molecules existed at the air-water interface in a bulk phase. NC was used as an inert material to construct mixed C60-Be/NC LB films which had a much better qulity than the pure C60-Be LB films. Our π-A, UV-visible absorption and SAXD measurements showed that the structural improvement in the mixed C60-Be/NC LB films was realized by insertion of the C60-Be molecules between the two hydrophobic chains of the NC molecules. The relatively large third-order nonlinear susceptivility χ(3)=2.1×10-11 esu was deduced by measuring THG from mixed C60-Be/NC LB films. The NC molecules have attractive features as an inert material in fabrication of LB multilayers made from optically nonlinear materials with hydrophobic long tails or ball-like structures.

A theoretical expression of reflected and transmitted second harmonic generation (SHG) with different polarization combinations on a Langmuir Blodgett monolayer in front geometry and back geometry were given as a function of incident angle. Transmitted SHG signals were measured on a stilbazium salt LB monolayer with variable angle of incidence. It showed that the molecular second order polarizability β and molecular tilt angle 〈ψ〉 could be obtained by transmitted SHG measurement using only one polarization combination, provided that the variable angle measurement was made under a full 360 degree range. This a new method for obtaining molecular β and 〈ψ〉 in LB monolayer by SHG.
