The nondiagonalization method is proposed for analyzing competition and transformation of the transverse modes in hollow waveguide resonators. From calculating transformation matrix of propagation for the EH1m modes, we find that the energy of transverse modes of EH1m can be transformed from each other, and the engery transformation is in general unequal. It is shown that the lowest order transverse mode (EH11) is favoured when the cavity parameters are correctly chosen.

In mode analysis for noncircular, inhomogeneoua and anisotropio dielectric waveguides shift formula methods are widely developed. By these methods the mode parameters and fields of the investigated complex waveguide are calculated by using the known mode parameters and fields of reference waveguide, e.g. circular homogeneous and isotropio waveguide. In order to simplify the calculations of reference waveguide mode parameters, vector successful (VS) approximation is correspondingly used as well. In this paper the accuracy of this approximation is checked and some generalized VS-approximations are proposed, which are quite useful in applicaitons.

King-to-line, line-to-point and ring-to-point optical transformations by using computer generated holograms as a holographic lens are discussed in this paper. A liquid crystal television spatial light modulator fabricates computer generated holograms in quasi-real time.

Using the normal vector wave functions, which satisfies the vector homogeneous helmholtz equation, as the basis vectors, the fields inside the grooves of the grating are expanded by the vector modes, while the fields outside of the grooves are expanded by the vector pseudoplane wave functions. Applying field coupling conditions, diffraction equation for the amplitudes are derived. The method can be used to study the diffraction of optical plane waves with arbitrary incident direction and polarization direction. The results for the special cases of P-and S-polarization are well consitent with that given by Ref.[6].

General case of the tilt of grating normal in an arbitrary direction with respect to the illumintion direction has been investigated. It has been verified that the Talbot imaginary planes are parallel to the grating plane. The calculation model of intensity distribution for Talbot image pertinent to special case is presented.

A new holographic optical element (HOE) consisting of the hololenses with different focal length and diffraotional channel is described. The object space axes of all hololenses in the HOE are the same, while each optical axis in the image space is different. By the aid of such HOE, the object planes at different distance can be-Imaged into the corresponding channels, Therefore a 3-D object field may be displayed by many 2-D images. The primary experimental results for sampling 3-D particles field are presented.

A set for measuring single crystal fiber (SCF) loss spectra is described. The set consists of a tungsten halogen lamp, a monohromator, a integrating sphere, AgORbCs photomultiplier, and a data collecting and processing system. Fully resolved spectra are obtained from 200nmto 1150nm. The SCF absorption loss spectra, scattering loss spectra, and scattering position spectra can be measured.

This paper describes the nulling procedures used in the ellipsometry for anisotro pic surface (e.g., holographic grating) transformed into multi-step regulations from ideal two-step ones, if the orientation of two cartesian eigenvectors of the sample surface deviate a small angle from that of ellipsometer. The influence of this devation and its application are also discussed.

Two-mode reonance has been observed in an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with two KTP crystals. The difference of optical path between two modes was compensated by temperature control for the crystals. The frequency doubling efficiency for two-mode resonance was about 30 times higher than single mode resonance. The experimental results are essentially in agreement with the theoretical analyses.

Third-order correlation function for the measurement of ultrashort laser pulse using a two-beam CARS or CSRS technique was proposed theoretically. The temporal features of two-beam CARS or CSRS in several samples have been measured The durations of the pumping pulse, the output pulse of SCDL and the stimulated Raman scattering pulse were determined experimentally.

In the design and analysis of optical systems folded by prieme, the conventional method of unfolding the prisms and treating them as glass slabs has its limitations. In many cases (such as in the toleranoing of prism angular errors), surfaoe-by-surface finite ray-traoing is needed. Coordinate transfer formulae required in tracing rays through deoentred and tilted surfaces are derived in a general and simple form. A new method is developed for ray-tracing through roof prisms and corner cube prismswhich have special geometric structures.

In this paper the aberration properties of three-mirror optical system are Investigated. A more directly solving equation method is presented to design this system. The aberration balancing and image evaluation of this system are described. The results show that at the optical system with focal length of 4 meters, relative aperture of f/4, angular field of view 3°, the largest spot radius is 6.35 micrometers and the MTF is 0.36 at spatial frequency 150 linepairs per mm.

In this paper, we report the study of adsorption and dissociation of oxygen on a polycrystalline Ag surface by means of optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a Ultra-high vacuum. From the experimental results, we find that the nonlinear surface currents is affected by adsorption of oxygen, and this is reflected on tne change of parameters a and b. A simple model is used to fit the experimental results and is in good areement with the experiment.

Wavelengths and weighted oscillator strengths of transitions between levels up to n=5, 1=4 are calculated for the Li-like ions (Z=13~17, 19). Multi-configuration HXR method and optimization of slater radial integrals are used in the computations. Comparisons with existing experimental results are given. It is found that for the 4f-3d transition the calculated wavelengths are in better agreement with the measured data.
