In general case equivalent transformation of optical systems is discussed in detail by using matrix methods. It has been shown that the optical system with ray transfer matrix(ABCD) can be equivalent to a thin lens, if C≠0, or to a conbination of two thin lens, if C=0. The results given in this paper is useful for analysing the transformation of ray or beam through a complex optical system and the problems of multielement resonators.

    The method is developed in this paper for optimum designing the holographio concave grating (HCG) that can be used in the scanning flat spectrometer from the general aberration theory of HOGs and the character of the mount of the grating. The design program is simplified through transforming the complicated integration in to the sampling summation over bhe scanning range of angle and the spectrum planes. As a practical example, an astigmation corrected scanning flat holographio concave grating (SFHCG) is designed and some results of the numerical and optical experiments are given.

    Theory,characteristics and precision analysis of a real-time pulse-width measuring instrument using grating sampling second-harmonic method are described in this paper. It is shown that this instrument will have a wide applications.

    Eesearch on automatic tuning picosecond parametric laser is reported. Using one couple of MgO:LiNbO3 for angle tuning, equiped with automatic wavelength scanning system, a picosecond tunable output ranging from 0.7~2.2μm is obtained. The temporal and spectral characteristics of the parametric pulse are discussed. Analysis fits well with the experimental results. Single pulse width of <30 ps and band width of ~1nm have been achieved over 1MW in peak power. The maximum overall conversion efficiency of energy is 5.4%.

    The construction of double-pulsed TEA CO2 laser cavity with two pairs of electrodes is analysed in this paper. The result shows that uni-longitudinal mode can be obtained by double unstable resonators or TEM00 mode can be obtained by enlarging the ouratmre radius of reflector. To stabilize the output energy, the distance between two pairs of electrodes is limited by a minimum.

    We have experimentally investigated stimulated Raman scattering in single-mode fiber and measured the relative delay time between pumping and Raman-Stokes pulses produced by the effect of group-velocity dispersion using a streak camera. From the results, we found that the source of the Raman-Stokes pulse was at about one walkoff length into the fiber.

    The excellent passivly pulse mode-locking performances of the NAB[NdAl3(BO3)4] laser crystal are analyzed. The formation conditions of the self-starting and self-pumped degenerate four-wave mixing-phaseconjugate resonator (DFWM-PCR)and it is function in quickly mode-locking process are stadied. For the first time, demonstration of NAB collisionally enhanced quickly compression process of the mode-locking pulse width is performed experimentally. The result of 7 ps ultrashort pulse has been obtained.

    Degenerate four-wave mixing phase conjugation in Mn doped KNSBN crystal is obtained by using 1mW He-Ne laser beams. The reflectivities are significantly affected by polarized arrangements and by angles of incident beams. When the angle of the probe beam is near Brewster angle the reflectivity can reach up to 60%. The life time of photorefractive grating which takes 60 s for setting up is 18 hr. The-induced degenerate four-wave mixing phase conjugation has been observed.

    In this paper we demonstrate for the first time a high efficiency self-pumped phase conjugate mirror with twoway outputs by using a special-shaped crystal of BaTiO3. Over 60% conjugate reflectivity on 45°-cut faco and >40% on 135°-out free are obtained with this phase conjugate mirror. Some other experimental resnlts and conclusion are given.

    A new formnal of equivalent refractive index in the core-section of the multl quantum wells (MQW) waveguide is developed for the two polarizations in the thin film approximation. It can be applied to an arbitary refractive index profile of the MQW waveguide.

    In this paper, we report the fabrication of glass waveguides with Ag+-Na+ and K+ Na+ ion-exchange on Soda-lime glass substrates and the analyses of their chaitcteristics. The double ion-exchange is introduced, which can be used to fabricate surface refractive components such as prism and lenses. The profiles of various ions on top layers of ion-exchanged glasses have beam analyzed using Rurherford baokscattering spectrometry (RBS).

    The effects of weak optical feedback (WOF) on the bit error rate (BER) of coherent optical differential phase shift key-controll (DPSK) systems are presented. The results indicate that the BER properties of the systems can be improved by WOF under suitable feedback conditions.

    The energy levels of 4s24p, 4s4p2, 4s24d and 4p3 configurations and electric dipole oscillator strengths of 4s24p-4s4p2, 4s24p-4s24d and 4s4p2-4p3 transitions for KrVI ion have been calculated by means of the configuration interaction (CI) theory and the parameter extrapolation method. The calculated wavelengths show a good agreement with observations within 0.7 A range, the lines having the largest oscillator strengths are the ones observed in experimental.

    The symmetry of rotation-vibration states of diatomic N2 and O2 are disoribed by means of the chain of subgroups U(4) U(3) O(3) . The transition matrix elements of rotational Raman scattering are calc ulated by means of the group theory approach. The cross section of rotational Raman scattering are given for N2 and O2. The results are in good agreement with the experimental values.

    The method of gain coefficient measurement and the experimental calculating formula are given in this paper for dimer vapor of three-level system to measure the gain coefficient resulted only from the poulation inversion. And the gain coefficient in Na2B1Πu-X1Σg+ transition was measured experimentally.

    The gain coefficients of dimer of O2(1Δg) was estimated theoretically. Using microwave to generate singlet oxygen (1Δg) in our experiments, the gain characteristic of the dimer of O2(1Δg) at 6561 A has been obtained for the first times by the means of amplified spontaneous emission. When bho pressure was 0.3torr and the power of the microwave was 300 W, the net gain was 1.83% cm-1. It is expected to laser osoialla-tion in the medium.
