In this paper, a method of multi-bit matrix computation using modified signed-digit (MSD) arithmetic and multi-window decoding optical symbolic substitution rule (MW-OSSR) is proposed. The experimental results of two multi-bit matrix outer product computation are given. This method is of high accuracy and speed.

Laser is used as active light source for the first time in photoeleotrochemioal image deposition on P-type silicon substrate, and pictures with clear structures are obtained. This deposition system can be expected to be a new erasable picture recorder. Meanwhile, the liquid-solid junction characteristics of the depo-sition system are studied, and the factors affecting the quality of image deposition are discussed.

The Laser-sohlieren technique is especially suitable for detecting the rates of chemical reaction in high temperature and fast processes by shock waves. This paper deals with the improvement of this technique for study of chemical kinetics. The improved technique can produce a stable signal and is easier to be handled. Some chemical kinetics results by using our laser-schlieren set are also given in this paper.

We report the results of fabrication of integral lensed GaInAsP LED by using ion-beam milling technigue firstty in China. Baking a positive acting photoresist layer was found to facilitate a very reproducible method of forming a spherical mask suitable for ion-beam milling. Characteristics of Ar ion-beam milling of InP and mask was studied, and milling parameters are optimized for obtaining optically smooth etched surfaces.

This paper presents our experimental investigation on the characteristics of laser produced silicon plasma column as an X-ray gain medium in which the soft X-ray spontaneous emission amplification is demonstrated succesfully. It is found that the soft X-ray emission from 5A~100A of the plasma under this condition is mainly contributed from the He-like (Si12+) ions to Li-like (Si11+) ions recombination radiation and the Li-like ions n=3-n=2 transition emission and the strongest emissions occur at about 130μm from the target surface, with the corresponding electron density 3×1020 /cm3. The average ratio of the He-like ions to the Li-like ions on the 1S23d level is about 36. The reabsorption of the Si11+1s23d-1s22p transition is also observed of experimentally.

A peak frequency stabilized transverse zeeman He-Ne laser is reported in this paper. As a result of experiments we found that the maximum value of the laser's beat frequency of the vertical vibration corresponds to the centre of gain profile of the laser. Based on this specific property, the laser frequency can be stabilized at the centre of gain profile. Comparing with the iodine absorbing stabilized frequency standard laser national standard by the method of beat frequency, we found the frequency stability of this laser is 1×10-9 and it can work continuously over eight hours.

In this paper time-delayed four-wave mixing with incoherent light is applied for the study of vibratlonal dephasing processes of some dye molecules in excited electronic states. The information on subpicosecond dephasing time in absorption band of oxagine in PMMA and in solution, and in absorption edge of cresyl violet in PMMA has been obtained. A detailed physical interpretation of the observed dephasing time is given on the basis of our multi-level theory of time-delayed four-wave mixing with incoherent light.

The exactly analytic solution of the coherent sbate Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model is derived for the detunings using the interaction picture. The atomic level occupation probabilities are investig-ated numerically as function of time and detuning parameter and initial mean photon number. For detuning parameter, the quantum collapse and revival phenomenon of the atomic level occupation probabilities is found. Interference between revival signals is discussed. The time evolution of the coherent states of field is studied numerically. It is discovered that the evolution of the state of field appears to be quasi-reversible for a short period of time. This is an interesting and important new phenomenon of JC model. Detailed discussion is presented.

An organic compound-stilbazium salt with large moleoalar hyperpolarizabllity was synthesized which can form molecular monolayer. The optical seoond-harmonio signal of the stilbazium salt monolayer was measured and the molecular hyperpola-rizability β was obtained, to be 1.2×10-27 esu. Unfortunately, it is difficult to fabricate stable multilayer of the stilbazium salt. We reported in this article the fabrication of mixed stilbazium salt/araohidio acid Langmiur-Blodgett (LB) films and the studies of their nonlinear optical properties, in order to explore the possibility of the mixed films in preparing the stable molecular multilayer structure with large second-order susceptibility. The experimental results showed that the mixing of two suitable compounds is a way to fabricate stable multilayer films with high nonlinear coefficients.

The experimental results of anisotropic scattering in BaTiO3 crystal are reported. A new kind of anisotropio scattering wi h ring-and-hyperbola structure is first observed to our knowledge. The analysis presented herein is based on the photorefraotive four-wave interaction theory. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical analysis.

We have demonstrated that optical pulses as short as 38fs can be successfully generated from a simple linear-cavity dye laser. The laser consists of a six-mirror cavity with two dye jets (a gain jet with Rh 6G and a saturable absorber jet with DODCI) and a pair of prism as group-velocity disperesion compensator, and is synchronously pumped by the frequency-doubled output of a CW mode-locked Nd: YAG laser. The average output power is 20 mW at a reptition rate of 100 MHz.

A fast and high accuracy technique, homomorphio-threshold filtering of speckle photography fringes is presented in this paper. It can be used to continuously process the speckle photography fringe with high-speed, pointwise and high-precision. So the speckle photography fringe spacing and orientation can be-recongnized effect-ively.
