Pulse Shortened by Controlling the Self-phase-modulation in a Femtosecond Ti:sapphire Ring Laser

    It is found that additional insertion of a SF-57 glass with a high nonlinear refractive index in the Ti:sapphire ring laser cavity can create an adjustable SPM. Removing the chirp by an appropriate GVD, the mode-locking pulses can be shortened from 30 fs to 16 fs, corresponding to a compression ratio of 47%.
