Life Extension of Thyratron in Excimer Laser Generator with Use of Magnetic Assist

The anode erosion in a thyratron during operation is analyzed. The design of magnetic assist to extend thyratron lifetime is presented. Addition of the magnetic assistor reduces anode dissipation and mitigates reverse current, hence reducing thyration cooling requirement and anode erosion. The experimental results are presented.
