Photoacoustic imaging is a non-invasive 3D imaging technique which has been developing rapidly in recent years. It combines the high contrast characteristics of pure optical imaging with the high penetration depth characteristics of pure ultrasonic imaging. It provides an important means to study characteristics of biological tissues.
