An 8 ns laser pulse is compressed with the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) two-step compressor in the experiment, the shortest 153 ps SBS pulse is obtained with FC-75 as the medium, and the average pulse is 177.6±11.9 ps statistically, which is shorter than the 1/4 of hypersound oscillation period of FC-75. And the effects of the pump energy and the focal length of the lens on the SBS pulse compression process are studied experimentally.
