The development of the Table Top Terrwatt laser system has opened a newhorizon for the laser-matter interaction. In this paper we will review the lastest experimentson intense ultrafast laser produced hot, dense plasmas carried out at INRS and discuss theapplication of such plasmas in atomic physics and radiation confined plasma Physics.
