Review on the Fluid-structure Coupling Characteristicsin the Water Entry of Cross-media Vehicles
In this paper, the research progress on the water entry of cross-media vehicles is comprehensively reviewed, with particular emphases on the fluid-structure couplingcharacteristics, the impact on elastic body structures, and high-speed water entry phenomena. The water entry process involves complex fluid dynamics phenomena, including cavitation, impact loads, and interactions with the dynamic characteristics of vehicles, all of which significantly influence the design and performance of the vehicle. The fundamental concept of cross-media vehicles is discussed, which have unique strategic applications. The key challenges during water entry include dealing with significant impact loads and complex fluid dynamics, which necessitate the precise control over the shape, entry speed, and attitude of a vehicle so as to optimize its performance. The effects of the shape of a vehicle on its impact responses and cavitation dynamics are studied, and the water entry experiments under various conditions are conducted with high-speed photography and sensor technology. The obtained results could assist researchers in observing and analyzing phenomena such as cavitation formation, fluid ejection, and subsequent cavity closure. With the development in computational technology, simulation techniques are used to study multiphase flow dynamics and interactions with vehicle structures. In summary, the study of water entry for cross-media vehicles is an interdisciplinary field.By thoroughly understanding the physical phenomena and mechanical responses during water entry, scientific foundations can be laid for the design and operation of future vehicles, driving the development of integrated air-sea vehicle technology.
