A method employing a cavity phase modulator used as SSD (smoothing by spectral dispersion) is presented. Some frequency side bands are observed experimentally. The quality factor Q of the resonant cavity, with which the optical spectrum at 1.053 μm can span 0.2 nm, is analyzed.

The surface distortion of reflector mirrors in the laser cavity caused by high laser power changes the designed mirror surface that should be highly strict in the laser of good beam quality. The experiments show that both the copper reflector and the silicon reflector cooled by the thermoelectric refrigerator can compensate the distortion caused by laser power, so that the reflector surface is unchanged when it works. There are many other advantages of this kind of reflectors, such as no pressure distortion, the refrigerating power can be easily controlled and the cooling is even.

The technique for preparing a linear rectangular arch microlens array with 20 elements on quartz substrate using Ar ion beam etching has been investigated. The optical performance of the microlens array has been measured. The microlens array was mounted onto a linear YBa 2Cu 3O 7-δ high T c superconducting thin film IR detector. The experimental results show that the optical response performance with hybird structure of microlens and IR detector array can be remarkably improved.

In this paper, a novel three dimensional profilometric measurement system based on a computer aided image processing technique is presented. This system consists of a single mode optical fiber coupler with phase shifting as the grating projector. A piezoelectric (PZT) cylinder wrapped by one arm of the optical fiber coupler is utilized to introduce phase shift. Results have been obtained in the practical measurement with this measuring system. This system, owing to the advantages of quite simple optical configuration, extremely small size and light weight, high visibility and sinusoidal intensity distribution, would find high practical value in applications.

The effecct of holographic optical elements (HOEs) heated by the Gaussian beam was analyzed theoretically. The temperature rising of holographic optical elements caused by the Gaussian beam was calculated with Green′s function. The temperature rising with the change of different parameters was discussed. The experimental verifications that HOEs made with dichromated gelatin were heated with a laser beam were given.

In order to overcome the weakness of poor accuracy of optical interconnection, an optimization method of binary and bipolar associative model is proposed by using a neural network and a target function based on orthogonal projection algorithm. Computer simulation and experimental results show that the performance of the optimum model is greatly improved.

In this paper, theoretical analysis is presented on predistortion linearization of the optical fiber AM CATV externally modulated transmitter, and a circuit is designed based on Schottky diodes. Experimental results show that this predistortion circuit suppresses the third order harmonic (3HD) at least 13 dB from 50 MHz to 200 MHz, and has no effect on the second order harmonic (2HD) in the same time.

Silver halide sensitized gelatin holograms were derived from a new silver halide material. With different alkali halide components A in B solution and different concentrations (the ratio B/A), experiments were carried out about the bleaching effect with R 10 bleach bath on processing for silver halide sensitized gelatin holograms. A high diffraction efficiency of 81% was achieved. Some observations are discussed.

In this paper, the principle of power spectrum subtraction for images with multiple grey levels through the phase modulationis discussed. And, based on this principle, a new experimental solution of the optical joint transform correlation for multiple objects with multiple grey levels is presented. In this experimental solution, the power spectrum is recorded two times and followed by a subtraction of them. During the second recording, a phase plate is used to produce a half-wave delay of the reference image. The subtracted power spectrum is used for reverted Fourier transformation, which results in enhanced correlation peaks and eliminates correlations between the objects and between the background noises. This method is specially suitable to the recognization of multiple objects with multiple grey levels and is easy to be implemented.

A two reaction zone reactor for laser synthesis of powder was proposed. According to this idea, an installation with this two reaction zone reactor was designed and successfully set up. The installation was tested by using a 5 kW high power CO2 laser induced reaction of hexamethyldisilazane. Results showed that the two reaction zone installation could double the laser efficiency and the production yield comparing with the one reaction zone installation.

Dispersion relations of free electron laser(FEL) are analysed. By solving the FEL′s pendulum equation, gain coefficient Im(n) and refractive index Re(n)-1 are devived, then it is proved that there are Hilbert transformative relations between Re(n)-1 and Im(n), which are called dispersion relations, or Kramers Kronig relations. Finally, the physical analyses on dispersion relations are made.

In this paper, the theoretical design for the quantum well lasers with vertically integrated passive waveguides, which decreases the vertical beam divergence effectively, are reported. Through numerical calculation and analysis, the effects of structure parameters on far field pattern and threshold current density are studied. The calculated results show that the beam divergence can be greatly improved at the expense of only a slight increase of the threshold current density. An optimized structure for 980 nm InGaAs/AlGaAs quantum well lasers, which has a vertical beam divergence of 21°, was obtained.

Four lasing dyes in the blue green region were synthesised. The spectra and lasing properties of these dyes were determined. Two of them containing trifluoromethyl group have wide laser turning ranges (470~540 nm and 456~516 nm) and show high lasing efficiencies (41.4% and 26.6%) in a YAG laser pumped experiment.

Broadband laser can be obtained using a LiNbO 3 electro optic phase modulator, furthermore, the width and the shape of the broadband laser pulse can be easily controlled by an electrical pulse generator. It is reported in this paper that using a LD pumped single longitudinal mode CW laser as the light source, the peak power and the whole band width of the broadband laser pulse obtained reach 4.2 mW and at least 42 GHz respectively.

It is found experimentally that with no self pumped phase conjugation an intensive internal oscillation is observed inside a Cu doped KNSBN crystal pumped with an 8 mW laser beam of continous wave at 532 nm. But when the crystal is pumped with mode locked picosecond laser pulses with an average power of 1 mW at 532 nm, self pumped phase conjugation with hardly observed interal oscillation is easily formed. It suggests that our experimental results do not support the resonator mode of self-pumped phase conjugation.

The model of stochastic dispersion variation is built for a dark soliton transmission system, and its influence is studied on the arrival time jitters of the dark soliton to the detecting window. The results show: the stochastic dispersion variation apparently leads to the time jitters and reduces the capacity of the dark soliton transmission system. The nonlinear gain can suppress effectively the influence.

Third order nonlinear optical properties of a series of 5 dioxonaphthothiazole compounds were studied with three dimensional degenerate four wave mixing. The third order nonlinear optical susceptibilities |χ (3) | and the third order hyperpolarizabilities γ of dioxonaphthothiazole compounds were measured to be 4.3×10 -13 esu and 4.4×10 -31 esu respectively. The influence of the molecular structure upon the third order nonlinear properties of the materials was analyzed.
