Ultrafast eleotro-oplic sampling technique for characterizing ultrafast electrical transients is reported. The traveling wave Poekels, effect in electrooptic crystal and high repetition rate femtosecond dye laser system wore employed. Temporal resolution of less than Ips and voltage sensitivity of less than 50 uV have been obtained, and the electrical transients of Cr:GaAs photoconductive switch and dispersive characteristics of stripline transmission lines were measured.

This paper presents a new method of complex amplitude subtraction. The lens forms the Fourier transform spectra of two transparencies, Young's interference fringes formed by the identical image of the two transparencies are filtered with slit. The differential image of the two transparencies is obtained on the output plane.

The opto-galvanic effect (OGE) of CO2 waveguide laser, and CO2 waveguide laser stabilized by OGE and tuned by the compound cavity were investigated. The laser operated at 60 emission lines and the maximum single line power is 8W. The stability of laser at long time is over 1%.

The experimental study of the ultrashort optical pulses response and switch properties of semi-travelling-wave semiconductor laser amplifier are given in this raper. There is no broadening of optical pulses with the width 27ps at the repetition rate ot 1GHz after they pass through the amplifier. The amplifier can be a high speed optical switch wheu the injection current of it is modulated.

A simplified caculation of relation between the photon density and the pulse duration for the amplified spontaneous emission poise of copper vapor has bean given which is almost in agreement with the experimental rule of the relaxation oscillation. The formation of the oscillation is analyzed. In addition, the problem concerning unsatisfactory interpretation for the relaxation oscillation of the laser pulse using the rate equations has also been discussed.

By means of analysing emission characteristics of plasmas produced by laser irradiation on Al planar target with different incidence angles, we find that: with the same laser irradiance intensity, the intensity of LPX (laser produced X-ray), which is produced by laser irradiation on Al planar target normally, is much stronger than that produced by laser irradiation on Al planar target obliquely;and the increase of the intensities of the H-like transition lines are much more obvious. In addition, the experimental results also show that the size of LPX source along the normal of the target surface, which is produced by laser irradiation on Al planar target obliquely, is much larger, and the widths of the spectral lines wider.

Photoaooustic effect of ZnO thin film was studied. Belations hip of photoaconstio signals and modulation frequency, incident light power, piezoelectric coefficient, dielectric constant, thermal conductivity and specific heat were deduced under one-dimensional condition. The experimental results were consistant with those from the theoretical analysis. Piezoelectric coefficient of ZnO film, 633=0.817 c/m2 and 631=-0.43 c/m2, were also calculated.

With a CW stably discharged Kr-U HCD lamp as discharge plasma source, the U-atom was resonantly excited at the laser wavelength 591.54 nm. In the wavelength range between 400 nm and 800 nm, several hundreds of laser sensitive fluorescence lines were observed. The distribution of related level population increasemeat was measured by this method.

Eere, we studied the plasma ejected by pulsed laser ablation of YBaCuO superconductor pellet. Optical fibre is used to sample the plasma spectra, which arc detected and recognized with an OSA system. Then, we use optical fibre and a monoshrometer to trace the recognized particles. The time-of-flight spectra at various distance from the target surfnce was measured and the variation of spectrum intensity versus the distance obtained. Analyses of the results are presented.

Frequency upoonversion in Yb3+/Er3+ doped silica fibers pumped by a CW106.4 urn laser has boen demonstrated for the first time. The visible fluorescence spectra of Yb3+/Er3+ doped silica optical fibers were measured. Energy transfer process, excited-state-absorption and two-photon absorption of Er3+ ions were proposed to account for the experimental obser-vatiou of three upconverted fluorescence spectral lines at 467., 546 and 667 nm.
