In this paper we present an iterated moment method (IMM) for evaluating dispersion relations of dielectric waveguides with arbitrary cross-section. The numerical results are given for the fibers of var ous shapes such as circles, ellipses, equi-lateral triangles, chipped-circles and egg-shaped cross-sections. The results agree well with exact computer-aided numerical results by finite element method and point-matching method. The present method is simple and saves computation time.

The multifrequenoy acoustooptio coupled mode equations, including mormal and abnormal aooustooptio interactions, are presented in this paper. The solutions of the equations for two independent acoustic signals in the Bragg limit are derious linear and nonlinear effects of the multifrequency acoustooptio interactions are analysed theretically. These include diffraction efficiency, compression, cross modulation, and additional intermodulation intensities. Specially the differences between the abnormal diffraction and the normal diffraction are pointed out and analyse. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical analyses.

For the optical waveguide with index profile of second order polynomial, the Helmholtz equation is solved, and exaot solution of mode profile and mode equation are derived. The results can be used to deal with the relevant problems to the glass waveguide fabricated by Ag ion exchange technique.

A sequencing combined beam structure can mix several subbeams with different wavelength fully and the combined beam will have a constant diameter in certain range. A mazy type multipass reflector will multireflect the sequencing combined beam and reproduce the beam structure after every reflection automatically. The multipass laser beam can cover a supposed space. The main principles about the beam structure and the multipass system are presented. The applications in laser epeotroscopy of high-excited atom level and other fields are discussed.

The design and characteristics of the multipasses resonator with two annular spherical mirrors are described in this paper. The sizes of the beams at different folding points on the annular mirrors surfaces are periodical changed. The active volumes of the resonator are much smaller compared with the case in which all th?folding mirrors are flat. So for a coaxial discharge laser with annular gain regions, this kind of resonator is more suitable for the case of small discharge gap.

The properties of phase-matching (PM) faces for sumfrequenoy generation (SFG) are analysed according to the refractive indices and phase-matching conditions of two funamental waves and their second-harmonio wave in normal accentrio biaxial crystals. We derived 29 PM topologio diagrame and existing conditions, 15 non-critical phasemsyvhinh (NCPM) topologio diagrams, existing conditions and polarization relations. The topology and NOPM conditions for SFG in LAP and KB5 are also presented.

The phenomenon of self-mode-looking in phosphate glass laser is reported. The experiment results have shown that the probability of self-mode-looking can reach 100% when the pumping power is high enough and the length of the resonator is longer. The experimental results have been analyzed and discussed in this paper.

The match conditions of wave vector is firstly used for solving the strip waveguide problems by approximate scalar finite-element method in this paper. Thus the two-dimensional problems are simplified into two one-dimensional ones. This may provide a new approach for less computer memory and time, and retains all the advantages of approximate sealan finite-element method.

The basic principle and experimental method of refracted near-field technique for the measurem nt of optical fiber refractive index profiles are described. The measured results for multimode and mono-mode fiber profiles are provided and compared with that by reflection technique and near-field technique. The spatial resolution better than 0.8μm, and refractive index sensitivity better than 2×10-4 are obtained in the experiment.

We have measured the optical second-harmonic generation at free silver surface under ultrahigh vacuum condition. The value of the phenomenologioal parametre "a", introduced by Rudriok and Stern as a measure of the normal surface current, is determined to be - 4.0±0.8 at inoiden 1.064μm fundamental radiation.

With the experiments of dye laser shining on Ba generated in a heat pipt oven, we find in the spectrum ranging (from 420.0 to 440. 0nm) a broad-band structure and several Ba lines with transitions not coming from the ground state of Ba. A probable dynamics is given with the hypothesis of the dissociation of Ba dimer. The broad-band structure is ascribed to the absorption peak of Ba dimer.

Zirconia filing, deposited by PVD both at 300℃ and the room temperature, show crystalline inhomogeneity after a certain thickness: the tetr, phase exists on the eubstrate side and the monocline on the air side. It has been discussed that the cause of tetr. phase can be stable at room temperature in zirconia films. And from the concept of growing con-test, the reuson of resulting in the columnar miorostruoture and optical inhomogeneity of thin films is analyzed.

In this paper, the decoding model of color vision is briefly introduced. The θ-r-z color system, which is based on the decoding model and has both the features of the Munsell color system and those of the XYZ system, is proposed. The θ*-r*c-z* color system obtained from nolinear transformation of B, G, R, is provided. The decoding model is verified by both the reflection of e and z* to lightness and the distribution of the color samples of the Munsell system in θ*-rc*-z* system.

On the basis of transition radiation from a singe foil, the formulas of differential quantum spectrum of transition radiation from a stack of foils are derived with the superposition of radiation field and of radiation intensity. Using the formula of differential spectrum of incoherent transition radiation, we calculate the corresponding spectra produced by 54-MeV-electron respectively passing through the stack of beryllium foils (18 foils), magnesium foils (12 foils), and aluminium foils (12 foils). The results agree with the experiment.
