By using the specially made colour-coded plate (CCP), bombining with the principle of space-separation sampling and color fluorescent screen shining, the real-colour hologram of general two-dimensional objects made by a single beam is suggested. In addition, the method of making corresponding mask is described. Parameters selection and making method of the high-quality CCP are discussed. The experimental result is given.

A real-time optical/digital hybrid system for fingerprint identification based on the 1-f joint transform correlation is developed. The fingerprint is read by using the total internal reflection property of a prism and is pre-processed by two-order differenciation algorithm. The joint transform power spectrum can be binazed visually by adjusting the Monitor. This system is demostrated, and the experimental results show that it performs well.

A new algorithm for analyzing interferogram is presented. It overcomes the limitations of the traditional method and can process the broken interferogram resulted from the obstacles in the tested optical system such as RC telescope system. The new method performs well in real-time testing of the wavefront and has been successfully adopted in SPG-Ⅱ digital wavefront interferometer.

By measuring the power of a laser beam fefore and after a cylindrical lens made of absorbing filter, the spatial variance along the given transverse direction at the waist of the laser beam can be obtained. We can also obtain M2 and spatial variance at other axial positions with the help of additive lenses. Design criterion and measurement error of the method are discussed.

A 100 J level of XeCl and KrF excimer lasers pumped by an intense relativstic electron beam (REB) accelarator Flash Ⅱ has been developed. The laser cell has an effective excitation volume of 24 liters and a 20×20 cm 2 aperture. The pump power density ranges between 1.5-2.0 MW/cm 3. The maximum output energy of 136 J with the pulsewidth of 50-100 ns and peak power of 1.5 GW is obtained for the XeCl (308 nm) laser. The divergence angle is 1.3 mrad by using the positive confocal unstable resonator technique. In KrF(248 nm) laser case, the maximum output energy is 157 J with pulsewidth of 80~100 ns and peak power of 2 GW.

In the paper, a new technology for selecting single longitudinal mode (SLM) of solid state laser by phase delay of a birefingent crystal is proposed. Its principles of loss modulation are analysed. Based on the semiclassical theory, dynamic equations of light field are derived when several longitudinal modes compete in a cavity. Its ability for selecting mode is calculated. The oscillation of SLM is experimentaly demonstrated in a solid state laser by this way. The output power of 44 mW and stability of ±3% are obtained by using KTP crystal. It is shown that this technology is preferable to selecting SLM in diode pumped solid state laser with mid-lower output power.

The output power of a frequency stabilized He Ne laser depends strongly on the cavity losses. In this paper, the additional losses which come mainly from Brewster windows plate sealing are quantitatively analysed. Using indium sealing techniques, the mount quality and precision for Brewster window are greatly improved, and the output power of lasers are apparently enhanced due to reduction of the cavity losses. As an example, a He Ne 633 nm frequency stabilized laser with cavity length of 110 mm can give a output power of 2.4~3.0 mW.

The polarization characteristic of a He Ne laser with an activity in its cavity (LAPC) is studied with laser physics and crystal optics. The experiments show that two modes of the laser are orthogonal linear polarized. There is an angle between the polarization orientation of the front beam and the of the back beam. Moreover, this angle is related to the angle θ, which is the angle between the optical axis and k. The experiment results can be explained by the analysis. The theoretic calculation matchs the experiment well.

This paper presents the measurements and analysis of linear plasma nonuniformities in the preliminary two target coupling experiment for the recombination pumping schemes performed on the LF12 laser facility. A pinhole transmission grating spectrograph (PTGS) was used to monitor the linear plasmas. Quite different nonuniformity features were observed between linear plasmas produced by one target and two target coupling. The effects of plasma nonuniformity on GL (product of gain and length) value are of great importance.

Various approaches to the production of soft X-ray in the water window (2.3~4.4 nm) and the nearby wavelength range are discussed. Atomic number of the material used as target is the most fundmental factor which affects X-ray production and conversion efficiency. High intense X-rays can be realized with laser plasmas in nonequilibrium or in equilibrium state, and that X-rays from black body sources produced by laser plasmas in equilibrium state be used for X-ray microscopy of living samples is proposed. With the present lasers, X-ray microscopy can be made using narrow band emission or black body radiation from laser plasmas. The black body X-ray source produced by high intense femtosecond laser interaction with solids of high atomic number is useful in time-resolved spectroscopy as well as in X-ray microscopy.

The spectral distribution of the Hefei synchrotron radiation was determined in 200~350 nm, by comparison with the D2-lamp with MgF2 windows, which is a radiometric transfer standard source of NPL. Within experiments error, a good agreement was found between experimental results and value predicted by the theory of synchrotron radiation derived by Schwinger. The difference between experimental and thoretical data is less than 6% at 200 nm and 1.5% and 240 nm.
