In this paper, the characteristics of mode fields and optical power coupling among optical fibers of practical 1×3 single-mode optical fiber splitters with a integrative structure of waveguide are derived by using the eigenvalue equation of the symmetric five-layer plannar optical waveguide, and the experimental results are given.

    In this paper, we report the calculation of single line-image and double line-image for various configuration of diffractive optical element (DOE), which were designed as one- dimensional plane configuration of bar-shaped pure-phase from the principle of the optical equal-path compensation. The calculated light intensity distributions are in agreement with which from the ideal diffraction disk. There are some weaker noise-light peaks between the double line-image. It should be improved for high precision imaging.

    This paper presents a hybrid pattern recognition system for real- time fingerprint recognition, which is based on the power spectrum analysis (PSAS). In order to acquire the fingerprint images from personal finger, the two cases related to incoherent light and coherent light are investigated. Experimental resultS show that the system related to fingerprints acquired by incoherent light has better performance.

    The process of numerical value of iterative convolution algorithm is presented and a practical software is developed with turbo C 2.0. By means of computersimulation, we checked the reconstructed precision of this software and the relationship of reconstructed error with projective direction numbers and iterative numbers. The results show that this software has a good reconstructed precision as the projective sampling at equal interval over 180°, with the projective numbers of 6 and the iteration numbers of 8~10.

    On the basis of Fourier transform, a method of the holographic interference fringes magnified under low magnification is suggested, which has the advantages of simple experimental setup, selective magnification and good quality of the contrast of the holographic interference fringes.

    Based on the self reproducing profile model, the basic equation for synchrously pumped mode-locked dye laser is derived, in which the frquency chirp of optical pulse is regarded as phase parameter. Form this equation, the analytical expression of frequency chirp can be obtained to provide the evidence for reducing the chirp in practice and approaching the transformation limitation of optical pulse.

    In this paper, the self-starting mode-locking characteristics of all fiber lasers with nonlinear amplifying fiber loop are analyzed and the theoretical model of calculating the pulse effective energy gain in the lasers is obtained. The resultS show that the selfstarting mode-locking of the lasers are related to the gain and cross-section of the Er3+-doped fiber. The threshold peak powers of the pulses for self-starting mode-locking are calculated. With this model, the experimental phenomena are well explained.

    The effect of coupling between additive and multiplicative noises on the one dimensional laser model is investigated. The analytic form of the steady state laser intensity distribution function is obtained. Compared with the laser model with independent noise, the coupling between noises enhances the fluctuations of laser intensity.

    A method for phase calculating by spoilal averaging over shift ESPI optical field is proposed based on the principle of phals-shifting interferometry. It is possible to realize phase shifter calibration automatically with the same optical system, and to obtain the measurement characteristics of the optical field and the Phase shifter. We have compared this method with equidistant fringe phase calibration, and the relative error between the two ways is less than 3%, within the usable voltage range.

    In this peper, we give an introduction to shearing speckle interferometry with double niterferences of the wave fronts. The information of the first inteference of the wave fronts before and after the deformation of the object is stored on two holographic plaids. the second interference is completed by using optical processing technique. The double interferences eliminate the influences of displacement and its first order derivative respectively, and so that the whole-field fringe pattern for second order derivative of the displacement is obtained.

    A general method for designing diffraction lenses is presented. It is adoptable to the diffraction lenses with large relative aperture and arbitrary conjugate distance while the effect of the substrate thickness is taken into consideration. A lens thus designed was fabricated by a laser writing system and the diffraction limit quality was obtained.

    A binary optical element is designed based on computer generated hologram for shaping the profile of laser beam from Gaussian to top-hat. As it is a binary optics, so the diffraction efficiency is four times than the holographic one's. The approach is easy in fabrication. The design and experimental results are presented.

    An observation of optical conjugation in azo-dye-doped liquid crystals cell is reported for the first time. Its response time, diffraction efficienty and threshold intensity were measured, and the resolution was analysed. It is shown that it's a novel promising phase connjugate device.

    The phenomenon of Shake-up in Ar excited by laser produced plasma (LPX) by using a beam of UV excimer laser injected onto a Ta target is described in this paper. The 68 transition lines originated from the Ar+ 3p4p are identified among which 66 possible lines are observed in the experiments.

    An analytical model for single-photon spectral hole burning was presented. Rate equations were solved and the dynamical properties for the hole formation was derived. Experimental measurement were Performed for the hole-growing process by methods both in frequency domain and in time domain. The results were in agreement with the theoretical analysis. Effective hole-growing rate and the time of hole formation were obtained by a least square fit with the model.

    The absorption and fluorescence spectra of Tm: YAG crystals doped with Cr3+ and Er3+ sensitization ions have been studied. The average lifetime of 2E, 4I13/2, 3F4 levels of Cr3+, Er3+, Tm3+ ions, energy transfer efficiencies and rates have been calculated. Cr3+→Tm3+ transfer efficiency is 80%, transfer rates is 2. 1 ×103s-1. The fluorescence spectrum of (Er, Tm): YAG crystal shows that Er3+→Tm3+ energy transfer is efficient one. It was discussed that the sensitization mechanisms are difference between Cr3+ to Tm3+ and Er3+ to Tm3+.

    The characteristics of the DOG wavelet tyansform by inverse transform (WT) is studied. The property of the spatial scale analysis from coarse to fine and localization properties expressed by WT were somehow similar to the information processing of the human vision system. It is indicated that the wavelet transform with DOG wavelets might be a powerful tool for researching the mechanism of the human visual information processing.
