In this paper, a vector modal expansion method is used to investigate the diffraction efficiency of optical vector waves for a perfectly conducting reflection grating with grooves of arbitrary cross-section. The results for the special cases of p-and s-polarization are well consistent with that given by ref.[2].

A new shear plate collimation tester on the basis of a single wedge plate using two-time rotatable ways[1] have been developed[2]. It is mainly used to test laser beam collimation, divegrence and amount of defocusing of optical systems in collomator, beam expander and telescope. It can be also used to test wavefront aberrations and laser parameters and to adjust optical systems. In this paper. The basic principles, quantitative interpretation, accuracy analyses, functions and features of the tester are presented.

Based on Mie' s light scattering theory, a method to determine the size distribution of large particles using multi-wavelength light extinction is proposed in this paper. Theoretical analysis and numerical calculations show that the method using multi-wavelength extinction at wavelength between 0. 4 μm-0. 8 μm can expand the upper limit of particle measurement to 300 urn. Numerical simulation results and measurement results of monodisperse polystyrene latex spheres as standard referance material are also given in the paper.

A new theoretical model for non-cavity-length-matched APM laser was presented and the equantions discribing it were given also in this paper. Numerical caculation were completed. The caculation results give the influence of parameters on the non-cavity-length-matched laser operations and the relationships between the compression rate of pulse width and the cavity parameters. The optimum opteration conditions for this new kind of APM laser were obtained.

The Uniphase 1007 type long lifetime commercil He-Ne laser is studied as Zeeman frequency stabilized laser. A frequency drift of 5×10-9 is obtained by the maximum error analysis method for the observation period of 17 hours. The seperation between two linear polarizations of two frequency components of the laser output beam is 1/60. The orthogonal angle between two linear polarizations of the laser beam is 89.5°. The experimental adjustment technique of Zeeman laser is given. A physical phenomena is discribed on the relationship between polarizations of laser beam and number of longitudinal modes.

By using an active-passive mode looked Nd3+:YAG laser and avalanche transistor absorption single pulse slicer, amplifier, frequency doubler, and a frequency mixer, 30 ps single laser pulse at 355 nm was obtained. It was used as the pump source of a type I noncritically phase-matched LiB3O5 optical parametric generator. Under the precise control of crystal temperature, 415.9~482.6 nm tunable blue-viole laser with 0.15 nm linewidth has been achieved. The highest parametric energy conversion efficiency has been up to 37.6%, which leads to the picosecond laser output with energy of 6.33 mJ and peak-power of 211 MW.

The multiplicative noise and saturation effect in a single-mode laser are investigated and the mean and normalized variance of the steady state laser intensity are calculated. Compared with the experimental measurements, good agreement is obtained near threshold region. Far above threshold, the saturation laser model can well describe lasers in practical applications.

In this paper, we have studied the influence of the frequency detuning on the phase properties of the light field in the two-photon J-C model. We verify that the detuning can not only change the atom-field coupling degree, but also induce the frequency shift of light. And, the relation between the phase properties of phase operator in the two-photon J-C model and the frequency properties in the two-photon laser is discussed.

Using two beam-coupling equations to describe space-charge field, we investigated the inclination and the bent of the equiphase surface, which would cause two kinds of wave-front distortion of phase conjugate wave in four- wave mixing (FWM). The qualitative method destribing the distortion was obtained. Through numerical calculation, the effects of varied experimental parameters were presented. The length of the crystal and the applied electric field, which were related to the diffraction efficiency and the resolving power were also discussed.

We have studied the phase change in the optical path by a method of time-delayed laser induced double gratings. It is found that through the shift of the peak position of the beat, the relative phase change between two lights which have different frequency and polarization can be measured after they pass through a medium.

In this paper the two- grating interferometer is analysized by means of nonapproximation. It is shown that when the number and the contrast of fringes from the interferometer are not limited by the coherence of its illuminating light, it is also not influenced by the position in space of the light source and is still capable of yielding equal spacing straight fringe pattern. The general conditions are derived under which the temporal or/and spatial coherence of illumination has no influence on the fringe patterns. Further, the effect on the interferometer due to the mismatch of these conditions is discussed.

A new interferometric technique for measuring liquid refractive index (RI) with high accuracy has been developed, which is directly traceable to the wavelength of He-Ne laser. The accuracy of this method is improved by increasing the optical path of step. The experiment revealed that the temperature distribution nonuniformity in the liquid limits the practical uncertainty of liquid RI measurement from 1×10-6 to 4×10-5 (2σ) depending on its temperature coefficient although much finer resolution can be easily achieved with this method.

The Soft X-ray spectra and energy levels of the 1s2 nl(n=2~6, l=0~6) configurations for the Li-like Ca ion are calculated with the aid of the multi-configuration HFR program developed by Cowan. The results are discussed and compared with other theoretical and experimental values. The 3d-4f transition (5.77 nm) as a soft X-ray laser transition has been confirmed by our latest experiment.

We present a method to implement novelty filtering and motion detection with two photorefractive crystals greatly different in response times as the two PCMs of a phase conjugate Michelson interferometer. Because this arrangement allows different combinations of crystals, the difference between the response times of the two arms can be very large and highly tunable, therefore the minimum detectable velocity of the moving object is significantly reduced and a strong and lasting image of the displaced object is obtained. We also report a method to equalize the phases and amplitudes of the phase conjugate waves from two crystals. Theoretical analysis of the relationship between the changing object and the output and experimental results are given.
