A Fibonacci sequence diffraction grating with the generation number of nine is designed and prepared. The selfsimilar diffraction spectra of the grating is obtained both theoretically and experimentally, which stimulates interest in the study of the optical scaling properties of the quasi-crystal.

A new and elegent technique for automated phase evaluation referred to as carrier phase shifting holographic interferometry is proposed. The key features of the technique are as follows. The fringe patterns with different phase shift can be reconstructed from a double exposures hologram. Thus it can be used for automated phase evaluation to time dependent problems. Although, the fringe patterns with different phase shift are readout from different places on the hologram, they can be exactly overlaped. This cancels the positioning problem faced by multiple channels phase shift methods. It provides live phase shift fringe patterns because the fringe patterns with continously phase shift can be observed as the reconstructing laser beam moves. Principle of the technique as well as its experimental demonstration is presented.

Optical implementation methods of one dimensional local interconnection neural network (LINN) for associative memory are proposed, and three optoelectronic system are discussed in this paper. Based on optical incoherent correlation system, experimental results of one dimensional LINN are obtained by using image monitor to encode interconnection weight matrix and liquid cystal displayer to encode the input vector.

A correlation peak sharpening method in optical pattern recognition is proposed in this paper. The edge enhancement of input images was obtained by using nonlinearity of recording medium, hence the correlation peak was sharpened. The procedure and theoretic basis are presented in detail with both optical experiment and computer simulation results.

Theory and method for the determination of quantum efficiency for photochemical hole buring (PHB) are given in detail. For the organic impurity center tetrahydroxyphenylporphin (THP) imbedded in poly (methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) amorphous matrix, the quantum efficiency is calculated according to the parameters measured at liquid helium temperature. Integrated absorption coefficient instead of dipole moment is used in the calculation.

In this paper a new threshold theory of laser is given and analytical formula of the theory is introduced. The threshold values for some kinds of lasers are discussed. The relationship between the threshold inversion and the oscillating duration is investigated experimentally. And the measured result is in good agreement with that of the new threshold theory of laser.

Thepolarization characteristics of TE, TM modes output from the 1. 3 μmInGaAsP/InP lasers with different ridge-waveguide width are measured. It is observed that there is the polarization competition between TE and TM modes in narrow ridge-waveguide laser. For wider ridge-waveguide laser, the polarization of the stimulated emission above threshold current exhibits only TE mode, there is no competition. The degree of polarization above and under threshold currents are calculated and discussed. The results show that it is possible to get stable polarization output if we choise strictly the parameters of the laser, control the evironmental temperature and rationaly use the devices, and it is not necessary to use any polarizer.

An all-optaical fibre state-of-polarization controller (AOFSOPC) is first presented in this paper, which effectively changes the random state-of-polarization (SOP) of the single-mode fibre into a stable linear SOP. The SOP control is achieved without any mechanical, electrical or magnetical device. The characteristic parameters of the AOFSOPC fabricated experimentally have been measured with the insert loss and polarization sensitivity less than 1 dB and 0.5 dB, respectively.

The radiation force on a moving atom in a bichromatical travelling field is investigated in this paper. The relation of the atomic stimulated transition rate and the radiation force on the atom with its velocity in a bichromatical travelling wave is obtained by numberical calculation. Compared with that in a monochromatical travelling or a standing wave, the result in the bichromatical field have its own character, which is useful in the investigation of laser cooling of neutral atoms, selection of atomic velocity and atomic mometum diffusion.

The properties of the N th- power squeezing of field amplitude in the k- photon Jaynes-Cummings model of an atom initially in atomic coherent state coupling with vacuum field are investigated in this paper. The results show that the field exhibit not only the N=k th-power squeezing of the amplitude but also the N=(k/2) th-power squeezing when k is even.

One-step panoramic holography is presented. Two concave mirrors are used in imaging system to record the rainbow hologram with 360°viewing angle on a plane holographic plate. Compared with the two-step method, the prominent property of this method is without the processes of accurate conjugate reconstruction and precise registration.

In this paper, the radiationless transition of the excited state 5D0 of Eu3+ in SBN crystal has been studied by observing the temperature dependence of the fluorescence lifetime of 5A0→7F2 emission band. The temperature quenching effect of 5D0→7F2 band is mainly due to that the minmum energy of the charge-tranfer state (CTS) of Eu3+ is so low that 5D0 state can be activated thermally to CTS and then transfers to 7F state via CTS with radiationless transition.
