In this paper, we present a new direct methed for solving the problem of a mult ilayer dieleotrio planar waveguide. Applying this method to a non-uniform dieleotrio planar waveguide, we can solve the problems of an arbitarily graded planar waveguide for either TE or TM modes. Taking parabolic and exponential refractive index profiles as two examples, we have shown that high accuracy can be abtained by using this methed provided that the waveguide can be divided into proper number and thickness of layers.

    This paper deeribes some experiments and analyses on the Fresnel Holographic Filter (FHF). Its conclusion is that the FHF is not appropriate to be used as a correlator for pattern recognition.

    Some reevaluations of the lensless intensity correlator using a Fresnel Holographic Filter (FHF) are presented. It is confirmly concluded that there is no problem for the FHF to be used as a lensless intensity correlator for pattern recognition.

    A static parameter measuring equipment used for evaluating the sample of magneto-optical disk media is described in this paper. It is refitted from a metalloscope. The laser power, pulse width and extra magneto-field can be varied in a wide range. The readwrite characterization, sensitivity, uniformity and repeat erase-write number of the media can be measured with this instrument. The overall measuring process is controlled by an IBN-PC computer.The operation is very convenience. Experimental results show that it's an useful equipment for evaluating optical disk media and fabrication technology.

    In this paper, a whole-testing method is proposed for the spectral responsivity measurement of array device in accordance with its special features. The experimental results and error analysis have shown that the whole tasting could have high accuracy repeatability and easier to instrument rather than the point-to-point measurements.

    An optical fiber weak magnetic sensor with sensitivity of 10-5 Oe. is reported. The device uses metal-glass as magnetostrictive material and an Alternating Current Phase Tracking (PTAC) homodyne system for phase detecting in optical fiber M-Z interferometer. Nulling technique eliminates any problems arising from the magnetic hysteresis effects of the magnetostrictive material which affect its magnetometer output. The theory and design method of the transducer and the phase detecting system are analyzed in detail.

    In this paper, experimental research and theoretical analysis for the phenomenon of two-frequency of a CO2 laser with fixed spectral line are described. Using this CO2 laser, the experiment of three-frequency heterodyning is suooefully carried out.

    We report a novel negative feedback loop and a new fast circuit technique in this paper. Based on this technique, the outputs from two pulsed oscillators are synchronized. The relative jitter between the two pulses is about ±1ns.

    Using off-resonance Raman scattering at room temperature, we have observed, for the firsttime, the confined longitudinal optical (LO) phonon modes in ZnSe layer of the ZnSe-ZnTe strined layer superlattice(SLS) which have the lattice mismatch as large as 7.3%. The red shifts of LO phonon frequencies induced by confinement and the shifts induced by the elastic strains have been calculated. The latter are much larger than that induced by former. The blue shifts induced by tensile strain in ZnSe layer and that red shifts induced by comperssive strain in ZnTe layer made some confined LO modes in two individual layers overlap. Therefore, the folded LO mode had been observed in ZnSe-ZnTe SLS.

    The characteristics of second-harmonic-generation from femtosecond optical pulses are discussed. Analytical solutions for the harmonic pulse shape, and conversion efficiency in non-depletion condition are presented. In time domain coupled equations in general condition are solved by numerical method. Phase mismatching influnce on the harmonic pulse shape and conversion efficiency is analysed. Experimental study of extraoavity SHG in LBO crystal from 80fs optical pulses, produced by 0PM laser, is reported, the experimental results agree with the theory very well.

    The properties of degenerated four-wave mixing (DFWM) of high speed amplitude modulated beams in photorefraotive crystal are theoretically analysed. The experimental results in Ce:SBN crystal are given. The results indicate that in photorefraotive crystal DFWM may be used for encode communication corrected space phase distortion and for transmission and amplification of two directional signal.

    The electromagnetic enhancement mechanisms of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SEES) is examined by using Langmuir-Blodgett films as molecule-metal spacer for the first time. In our experiments SERS from the pyridine is monitored as a function of spacer thickness. The experimental results in silver films/LB films/ pyridine+KCL+H2O systems exhibit that SEES effect is still remained with 5nm and no Raman scattering intensity observed with 16 nm spacer thickness. The experiments support electromagnetic enhancement machanisms.

    The surface-plasma-wave technique is a very sensitive way used for determining the optical constants of ultra-thin films. In this paper we propose a new method to determine the dieleotrical coefficient and thickness of Langmuir-Blodgete film unambiguously by measuring the angle spectrum of minimum reflectivity with respect to thickness of air gap in Otto's coupling system. Experimental results for arachidic acid LB films with different number of molecular layers are presented.

    The experiments of SRS in quasi-monomode germanium-doped silica-core fiber are reported. The phenomena of competition between Raman modes and order-jump of SRS are observed. The competition between SRS modes is discussed in detail.

    The energy level population rate equations are solved in collisional-radiational (CR) model, when the ground state of MgX, MgXII, MgXIII and the 21 energy levels of MgXI, of which the main quantum number n are lower than or equal to 6, are included, and the electron temperature drops vs time in Gaussian profile are assumed Then the variations of ASE gain coefficient of transition 1s3p-1s4d, 1s3d-1s4f in MgXI plasma with time are given.
