In this paper, experimental observation and theoretical analysis of self-focusing of picosecond laser pulses in large-core silica fibers are reported. The nean-field intensity distribution of self-focusing light field was measured. Temporal and spectral characteristics were recorded. A waveguide model was proposed to explain the formation of ring structure of the self-focusing light.

In the paper, the shape stability of single crystal fibers grown by laser heating float zone growth method is studied with zone melt growth theory. The relation of melting zone length (1) during steady-state crystal growth to the diameters of source rod (D) and fiber (d) is explained. It is indicated that the laser heated source stability and the homogeneity of source rod are the major factors influencing the fiber diameter fluctuation. The conclusion deduced from theory agrees with the experimental results.

The mechanical measurement between fiber and medium in composites is an attractive bub difficult subject. We use a single-mode optical fiber instead of ordinary fiber to be burried in polyester. When He-Ne laser light goes through the single optical fiber and reference fiber with the same length, we could test the stress and strain in the optical fiber in composites according to the two-beam interference. Many results could be obtained about the interface miorocosmio mechanics in composites. This paper presents a new sensitive testing method for composites.

In this paper, a method of large-aperture (500 mm) and high sensitivity moire deflectometry is presented and used to obtain the multidirectional deflectograms of asymmetric flow field in high ultrasonic speed shock wave uind tunnel (M =10.29). At the same time, a 3-D reconstructive method of asymmetric flow field is presented which is based on the integration of moire deflective angle and double cubic many-Knot interpolating splines, and is used to calculate the 3-D density distribution of the asymmetric flow field.

A method for measuring the moduli of elasticity of material is presented in this paper. Laser frequency is locked-in the passage peak of Fabry-Perot etalon. Using the optical resonat characteristic of Fabry-Perot etalon with the optical beat frequency method, we can get the moduli of elasticity by measuring the strain under very small stress action. The relative errors of stress and stretch elastic moduli of quartz are given.

In this paper a new method called multiple-beam Moire deflectometry, is presented. Using multiple-beam, we need not measure the tilt angle of Moire fringe, but record the position of the object when sharpness of the fringe is the best. The basic principles of this method are described. The grating pitch and the angle of wedge were measured by using this method, satisfactory experimental results were obtained.

In an interferogram data processing, the characters of base function forming wave aberration polinomials, the solving process of canonical equation, the number of sample points and their distribution all have their influence on the solution of wave aberration functions, as well as the digitization error introduced inevitably into the measurement of interferograms. These errors are quantitatively analysel based on statistics and represented in the way of computer simulation. Meanwhile, the quantitative criteria about the selecting base function and number of terms of polinomials, the number of sample points and their destribution, and the rationality of fit results, are prosented.

A theoretical analysis on inhomogeneous reflection hologram was made in this paper. Taking account of the light absorption of recording medium the coupled wave equation consisting of two linear differential equations was transformed to a nonlinear differential equation-Riccati equation. The characteristics of the equation was analysed. From numerical solution, some new significant phenomena were discovered.

This paper describes a new type of optical system in optical head for magneto-optic disk drive, expounds theoretical the basic principle for magneto-optio information read out. The system has improved the performonoe of optical system reduced optical noise, incrased efficiency of optical energy. It has been applied to the development for a prototype magneto-optio disk(51/4inches) drive and the ratio of read out signed-to-noise has been reached more them 50 dB.

The experiments of using adaptive optical system to detect and correct the atmospheric turbulence effect in real-time along a 340 m horizontal path about 15 m above ground are reported. The results show that the image quality for point source and extended source with certain extension after corrected by adaptive optics is improved.

In this paper we present the first observation of optical regenerative pulsation in ZnS interference filter bistable device. Condition for the device to be unstable is analysed. Simulation of the pulsation process has been carried out. The device is expected to be used as clock-pulse generator in optical digital computing experiments.

The phase conjugate wave has been obtained by degenerated four-wave mixing (DFWM) with silicon single crystal as the nonlinear medium using Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers. The reflectivity of the phase conjugate mirror (PCM) has been calculated from the theory of the light induced electron-hole-pair density, which produced a phase grating. Experimentally, a reflectivity of 125% of the PCM was obtained and the property of the compensation of the phase aberrations was demonstrated.

A numerical model that is characteristic of atomic collision-radiation processes-is established mainly concerning the radiation of A1XI and A1XII ions. Processes such as the collisional ionization and recombination, collisional excitation and deexcitation, radiation recombination, and spontaneous radiation are included. The dynamic results of ion abundances, radiation losses, and some line emission intensity ratios are discussed.

A computational physics method is described for calculating the mooro-optical constants of solids based on the micro-data obtained from computation of electronic structure in solids. As an example, the absorption coefficient of metal Gd is calculated under the approximation of joint density of states.
