The existence of space debris seriously threatens the safety of spacecraft in orbit and causes a serious waste of limited orbital resources. Picosecond laser detection is the development trend of high-precision space debris laser ranging. However, the high peak power of a picosecond laser in single-pulse operation can easily damage optical devices, and it is difficult to further improve its energy and power. When operating in pulse burst mode, the high energy is dispersed to each pulse, which not only reduces the energy of every single pulse and avoids device damage, but also makes it possible to further improve the output power. Therefore, the pulse burst picosecond laser has played an important role in the detection of space debris, and has attracted extensive attention in recent years. Pulse bursts generation method and laser are summarized, which provides technical references for researchers engaged in ultrafast picosecond laser and the application of ultrafast picosecond laser.
