Separation of Li isotopes by laser deflection of atomic beams has been carried out. An atomic beam apparatus with a collimating ratio of 450/1 generates a Li atomic beam of 109 atoms/cm3 at the oven temperature of 600C. The CW tunable dye laser crossing the atomic beam at a right angle has a linewidth of 6 MHz and its intensity at the 1 cm interaction area is about 70 mW/cm2. When the laser frequency is tuned to coincide with 7Li 22P3/2F=3-22S1/2 F = 2 transition, TLi atoms are deflected from the beam. The deflected atoms are very pure 7Li and almost does not contain 6Li. When the laser frequency coincides with any other transition of 22P -22/S of both 6Li and 7Li, no apparent deflection is observed because of the optical pumping of the hyperfine levels of the 22/S1/2 ground state.

The valency change cf cerium induced by using nitrogen laser for excitation of KIO3-HCl system has been studied. Cerous iodate is soluble in acidic aqueous solution, but a yellow precipitate is formed homogeneously and gradually after irradiation by laser. It is proved by IR spectrum and chemical analysis that this precipitate is eerie iodate.

We have investigated the decomposition and formation of COCl2 in BC13 with a TEA CO2 laser of 0.8 J pulse energy. Our experiments show that unfocused and pulsed CO3 laser radiation with a peak power density of -106w/cm2 did not cause the dissociation of COCl2 in BC13. CO3 laser radiation with a peak power density at the focus of -108w/cm2 causes both the dissociation and the formation.

The dissociative recombination process of Ar2+ molecular ions with electrons has been studied at a pressure of several atmospheres and mean electron energy of about 2.8 eV over a range of 5.0x10-18<E/N<1.76x10-17v-cm2 by measuring the conductivity of an ionized Ar gas. The results show that the effective rate constant varies from 3.79 x 10-7 cm3/sec to 1.23X10-7emb/sec, from which it is caleula-ted that the 2-body dissociative recombination rate constant a2=(5+2) x10-8cm8/sec and the 3-body recombination rate constant kp= (2.44+1.40) x10-27cm6/sec. The contribution of the 3-body process is actually an order of magnitude larger than the 2-body process.

The generation and evolution of LiNbOa optical parametric oscillators synchronously pumped by frequency-doubled light from a mode-locked Nd:YAG laser has been studied by computer numerical simulation. It is shown that under the condition of pumping depletion the shapes and durations of the pulses in a signal wave pulse train are distinct from each other. The pulse duration in front of the train is shorter than that in the middle and at the end of the train(from 7 ps to about 20ps),meanwhile most of the pulses have substructures. Cavity length dismatch does not broaden the pulse very much but mainly reduces the output energy. The shape, the duration of pulses and the dismatch length of cavity are affected by the gain of the device.

It is found that the damage of thin film is induced mainly by some individual peaks of the laser pulses. The effect of thin film construction on the damage, and the action of SiO2 protecting coating in increasing the laser damage threshold of ZrO2/SiO2 film are analyzed.

The effect of polarization property of the intra-cavity He-Ne laser on the intensity of reflection beam is described. It is pointed out that reference beam of an incident angle of 45 is not able to eliminate the effect of intensity shift of the measuring beam. Satisfactory results can be obtained only when the incident angle of reference beam is less than 15°.

The parameter relation between the transformed laser beam and the telescope are analyzed by using the lense f rausf orming theory of Gaussian laser beams. The influences of misadjustment of telescope (displacement of focal points of the two lenses) on the output laser beam parameters are also considered and the expressions of the laser beam parameters in the output space are given.

Output performances of a hollow cathode He-Kr ion laser has been improved by modifying the laser structure and its power supply. The output waveforms of various spontaneous emission were observed and the formation mechanism of the laser output waveform was analyzed. The experimental results show that cathode sputtering is the main cause affecting laser output power and the waveform.

Uncertainty relation ASA can be used to discuss the directionality of laser light with TEM00 mode. But it can’t be used in describing the directionality of laser light with higher order modes. If oscillation of laser light is considered as the linear harmonic oscillator of photons oscillating in a resonator the uncertainty relation of laser light with higher order modes can be obtained, and it is in agreement with the previous experimental results.

The laser theodolite is known for its wide-range application, easy operation and high precision. In the installation and repair of heavy duty cranes, laser theodolite is superior, so far as efficiency and geometric accuracy are concerned, to the conventional instruments for measuring horizontal and centre line of the machine parts.
