    The wave equation of electric field intensity in the active gas with variable complex dielectric constants has been directly deduced from the set of Maxwell equations. The expression of its solution has been obtained with an accuracy of 1%. It may be used as the basis for calculating the field distributions in gas laser cavities.

    When a CW tunable dye laser beam with a linewidth of 6 MHz and a divergence of 4.7 x 10-3 radian irradiated across a Li atomic beam at right angle and scanned at the 30 Q Hz range, we recorded the fine and hyperfine structure of the transitions. Fine splittings in 22P terms of 6Li and 7Li have been measured to be 9.7+0.4 GHz and 10.5+0.5 GHz, respectively, and the isotope shift of 22P1/2 term being 10.7 + 0.6 GHz. With a scanning range of 2.5 GHz, spacinga of the successive lines of 7Li 22P1/2-22Si/2 transitions have been measured to be 88+llMHz, 730 + 73MHz and 92+7MHz, respectively. With a laser intensity of 4mW/cm2 and the oven temperature of 460C, the recorded linewidth was about 22 MHz. A number of factors affecting the linewidth, the relative strength of lines and the accuracy of measurement are discussed.

    Experimental results of an electron beam-pumped XeF (C-A) excimer laser are presented and reviewed. Such a laser was operated with an optimized gas mixture of 8 At. Ar, 16 Torr Xe, 8 Torr NF3 for transverse excitation and 2 At. Ar, 8 Torr Xe, 3 Torr NF3 for longi-itudinal pumping. In patieular, the influence of the optical resonator configuration upon the broadband wavelength tuning and enhanced output power characteristics was studied. With longitudinal electron beam excitation a tuning range of 74 nm (from 455 nm to 529 nm) accompanied by spectral narrowing has been demonstrated. The linewidth of the laser emission is-5nm when a prism is used as the dispersive element and is reduced even further to-lnm when the prism is replaced by a diffraction grating.

    By using a two-step arc sustaining technique to excite an ordinary continuous argon ion laser made of glass, a high efficient pulsed argon laser of very long life-time can be obtained. The strong magnetic field required for the excitation of an argon ion laser is of fundamental importance. The pulsed argon laser thus obtained is used as a reconstruction light source for liquid surface acoustical holography, resulting in a greatly improved image quality.

    The change process of optical properties in As-S films with different compositions during exposure to Ar+ laser light is studied. The experimental results show that photo-induced change of the optical properties of As2S3 film is the largest, and is a volume effect. The kinetics of the structure change is discussed. The change behaviour of the refractive index in newly deposited As2 S3 film under the cycles of annealing-exposure is also studied, reversible change of refractive index is about 0.03, and the irreversible about 0.1.

    With [010] orthorhombic Nd:YAP and [111] cubic Nd:YAG crystal rods as our samples for study, based on crystal symmetry, relation between thermal effects caused in pumping process and lattice symmetrical elements has been investigated. It is shown that the results obtained satisfy Newman principle.Effects of symmetry of thermal induced refringence and birefringence on isogyre pattern, depolarized losses as well as thermal focusing of crystal are also described in this paper.

    Relative spectral distributions of several alkali-metal vapor lamps were measured by means of a fully automatic spectral measuring apparatus. The dependence of the relatively effective radiation effeciency of the lamps, seperations between spectral peaks formed after self-absorption of resonance lines and the FWHM of the red and blue spectral wings on input power of the lamps are studied.

    Lasing of new BzOB-/3MU system has been achieved by means ofenergy transfer in binary solutions pumped by a N2 laser: The weak emission of 3MU has been suppressed by the mechanism of nonradiative dipole-dipole energy transfer.The rate constant for formation of excited /3MU molecules is relatively high. The data obtained can be described by a single kinetic reaction model.

    Some experimental study on He-Ne laser acupuncture is analysed; 1. penetration test,, a He-Ne laser can penetrate 1.8 cm of skin into the body; 2.temperature rising test, after laser irradiation of the points, temperatures in the correlative points arise; 3. a He-Ne laser can excite the bropagated sensation along the channels (PSC); 4. the electric conductivity of the points has regular change due to laser irradiation.The above experiments indicate that the mechanism of laser acupuncture induced reactions through channels and points has been verified at a certain degree.

    This paper reports that the acupuncture points of 32 teen-agers (64 eyes) with myopia were irradiated with low power He-Ne lasers. Observations on the change of their visions and refractions before and after treatment were made. The results show that clinically the laser did have a good therapeutic effect with a rate of 90.63%. It was found that there was notable improvement in their brain circulation. And initial study of the mechanism of He-Ne laser therapeutic effect was made.

    115 cases of ENT diseases (chronic rhinitis, chronic pharyngitis, chronic laryngitis and nervous deafness etc) were treated by a He-Cd laser from October 1979 to May 1981. Obvious effects were obtained in 29 cases (25.3%), 55 cases (47.8%) were effective, 31 cases (26.1%) were ineffective, and the effective rate was 73.9%.

    CO2 lassr (20W), He-Ne laser (25 mW)irradiation and He-Ne laser(3-5 mW) acupuncture were used in clinical practice to treat 215 cases of vulva pruritus diseases. Each patient was given only one of the three irradiations.CO3 laser and He-Ne laser were used to irradiate the vulva pruritus region locally, and He-Ne laser acupuneture was given at the acupuneture points in addition to the local irradiation.
