Vibrational relaxation processes and data of CO2-N2-H2O laser system up to now are surveyed. The data before 1968 are based on Taylor & Bitterman’s review. The data are treated with weighed least square method to get best fit in the form of log10K=A+BX+CX2+ DX3, and the corresponding coefficients are presented. Using these best fits of data and relaxation model with three modes and four vibrational temperatures based on present work, numerical calculation results of small signal gain of GDL agree with experiments, thus eliminating the error introduced by the uncertainties of relaxation data and modle.

Using the simple diagrammatic relationship of general solution of the TEM00?thermo-insensitive resonator, the circle in the place of thermo-perturbation lens is tangent to circle 1 of the mirror R1 of the resonator. A very simple design and calculation method of such resonator has been proposed. And as an example, the design and calculation of four types of the TEMoo-thermo-insensitive resonators have been presented.

Matrix methods are provided for describing the off-axis spherical waves and their transmission properties. The ABCD law for on-axis spherical waves are shown to be also applicable for off-axis ones. The stability of the unstable cavity modes are discussed from the point of view of two dimensinal stability. It is proved that the convergent wave is unstable and the divergent wave is stable.

A room temperature CW NdPP laser at 1.051 and 1.32m pumped by Ar+ laser has been operated. Low threshold operation in a semi-concentric resonator was obtained. The lowest threshold absorption power was 1 mW. Maximum output power for a single transverse mode was 2 mW. Using the laser oscillation data, the stimulated emission cross-sections were determined as follows: 1.05=1.1×10-19cm2, 1.32=2.2×10-20cm2. Laser relaxation oscillation has been studied and a plot of relaxation oscillation frequency as a function of excess threshold [ratio of pumping power is given. Threshold pumping power intensity as a function of crystal length at different output power has been calculated.

In this paper, we describe the arrangement and principle of infrared transmission technique and report the main results obtained. Our experiments show that the technique is another useful tool for the study of GaAlAs/GaAs DH lasers. The comprehensive photographs obtained including the epitaxial layers, the structure near the stripe region and emissive pattern of the active region could not be obtained previously with ordinary microscopes or scanning-electron microscopes.

It is shown that there is always a minimum on the threshold-concentration plot for dye Q-switched ruby lasers, which increases with the increasing ratio of cavity loss to ruby length and decreases with the increasing ruby diameter. Efficiency of the Q-switched ruby device increases with chromium concentration in a considerably wide range.

The problems on spatial modulation of laser beams are investigated. The formulas are derived for field distributions of the modulated beams with grid, slit., circuar and fan-shaped modulators. Profiles for field distributions are given and experimental results described.

This paper describes the interference type computer generated hologram. A new calculating and drawing method the fringe order method is proposed. The phase distribution on recording plane and the reasonable range of approximate calculation are discussed. A set of photos for testing the quality of CGH and the experimental results in testing a parabolic mirror using CGH are given.

The process of forming fundametal mode in an unstable resonator is disscnssed in terms of geometric optics and the time expression for the process is deduced. The expression is useful in obtaining output of diffraction-limited angle for a laser of high gain and short inversion life time.

A traveling wave ADP Pockls’ cell has been used to modulate an optical beam at 0.6328m. Electrical pulses used to drive the device are generated by a semiconductor switch controlled by ultrashort pulses at 0.53m. High precision jetter-free synchronism appears to be possible.

A method is recommended to measure the spectral distribution of pulsed light sources with a prism monochromator. It is found that when a GW-5A monochromator is used we have to insure identical spectral width of monochromatic light (FWHP) over the whole range of wavelength measured. For this, formulas and data are provided and typical results are plotted.
