Infrared spectrum of LiNdP4O12(LNP) crystals is reported. Structural properties of LNP were explored in comparison with the infrared spectra of neodymium pentaphosphate (NPP) crystals and other rare-earth tetrametaphosphates. Phenomena such as nonabsorption of OH radicals, bridge bond P-O-P high frequency shift as well as band splitting are explained.

Trifluoroacetates of 14 rare-earth ions were successfully prepared. Thus, we were albe to solve the problem of doping these ions by dissolution and eleminating the quenching action of water in the system of POCl3-SnCl4 or ZrCl4. The effects of various rare-earth ions on laser performances and fluorescence life-time of the Nd3+:POCl3-P2O3Cl4-SnCl4 system were observed. The results showed regularity in certain aspects.

In this article a He-Cd laser operating in a nonuniform magnetic field is reported 100 milliwatts at 4416 A is obtained, which is 40% higher than that obtained without magnetic field In the vicinity of laser threshold, the power increase is up to 100%. It is also found that the power increase at .3250 A is even more obvious.

Computer holograms, Lohmann holograms in particular, are discussed in this paper. Lagrangiun iuterapolated binary Fourier holograms of two dimensions are programmed and computed, and modification of the phase errors of Lohmann holograms is made. It improves the reconstructed image quality and pushes forward the applications of computer holograms.

The experimental results on transformation hardening of 6 kinds of metals have been reported by using a HJ-1 CO2 laser. The effect of technical parameters of the laser on the structure of surface hardening and its characteristics have been investigated. Optimum parameters of laser transformation hardening for these metals have been found. And the experimental results of laser hardened V-guide slide were compared with those of common heat treatment.

In the separation processes of boron isotopes by multiple-photon absorption of infrared radiation, a new photochemical products were produced from the Loser induced photochemical reaction of BC13 and CnF2n+2. A strong absorption peak of the new photochemical products at 1000 cm-1 overlapping with the v3 vibrational absorption band of 10BC13 thus the measurement of boron isotopes enrichment coefficient by infrared absorption spectra would be interfered.

Self-consistent integral equations for the field distribution of the rasonant modes of virtual (real)concentrie resonators and semi-concentric resonators with circular mirrors were solved by comparing with that of plane parallel resonators. The amplitude distribution of field intensity on the mirror surfaces of the concentric or semi-concentric resonators are just the same as that of symmetric plane parallel resonators consisting of two identical plane mirrors seperated by a distance which equals to 2g2 times of the cavity length of concentric or semi-concentric resonators. The power loss per round trip of resonant mode of concentric or semi-concentric resonators just equals to that of per transit of the resonant mode of the plane parallel resonators mentioned above.

When pure nitrogen is excited with transverse double discharge, high gain stimulated emission at 3577A in nitrogen molecules is observed. The laws for increasing nitrogen laser power at 3577 A were studied by adding SF6 to N2, and the effects of SF6 on discharged molecular nitrogen laser are discussed.

Effects of gas constitution and electrode material on the life-time of sealed-off CO2 lasers have been studied. It is pointed out that the removal of N2 is an important factor affecting the life-time. CW operation life-time of the laser has been obviously improved when electrode of pure silver and gas mixture of CO2, CO, He and Xe are employed.

Optical radar principle of pulse reflection is applied, a GaAs single heterojunction laser is adopted as its pulse light source and an aspherical lens system is used to couple the light into the fiber. The reflected pulses are detected by a PIN diode, amplified and sent to a special counter. The displayed digits shows the distance between the fault in the fiber and its measured end. Accuracy of the apparatus is 2.5M; measuring length: 1.5kM (attenuation of fiber: 10dB /kM).
