The diffraction divergence of a light beam after passing through a sharp edge diaph-ragm depends on the intrinsic energy[1] of the beam. In this paper we have derived that the intrinsic energy of a uniform light beam after passing through a sharp edge diaphragm is propor-tional to the total length of the diaphram edge. We obtained a very simple result using the diaphragm edge length to describe the beam diffraction divergence.

Experimental studies on the high power and high effeeiency UV-preionized KrF (=248 nm) excimer laser are reported. The maximum output energy per pulse is over 420 mj. Characteristics of lasing and fluorescence spectrum for KrF are studied. The effect of additive Ne gas in the mixture on lasing energy is examined.

The extinction ratio of double 45?single block LN electro-optic Q-switehes is defined. The performances and optimum operation of such Q-switehes are discussed. A structure of the switch is given, which has an ideal extinction ratio and is characterized by its easy alignment and no strict confinement of the length along Z-axis.

An injection-locked dye laser has been constructed with a four-mirror ring Eh-6G dye laser pumped by a pulsed xenon ion laser. The output line at 5960 A of the xenon-ion laser is used as the injection source. The characteristics of the output intensity and spectra of the injection-locked dye laser are also investigated.

This paper describes a laser scanning technique used for dynamic measurement of optical fiber diameter and a new point by point comparison-technique used for controlling optical fiber diameter. For optical fibers with outer diameters of 50μm to 250μm, the error of measurement is within ±0.5%. The results are displayed numerically and converted into simulative signals which control effectively the drawing velocity of a drawing machine, thereby ensuring the uniformity of fiber diameter.

Divergent beams from point source have been used for recording of holographic screen. As a consequence, large-aperture optics necessary in recording such screen can be avoided. Theoretical computations have proved that it is possible to eliminate the third-order spherical aberration by using two-element holograms and the imaging resolution of the screen system has been improved.

The study on the performances of transversly pumped dye lasers are naturally connected with the intra cavity elements. To ensure the quality of these elements, their technical desigen and technological processing are of more importance in addition to the physical properties and theoretical calculation. This paper gives the analysis on their technical desigen, technology, and adjustment respectively.

A hybrid CO2 laser is described. In this laser a TBA-CO2 pulsed discharge tube and a low-pressure CO2 continuous discharge tube have been put in the same laser resonator. Simultaneous oscillations of multi-longitudinal modes in conventional TEA-CO2 lasers have been restrained and single longitudinal mode pulsed CO2 laser output with high peak power has been obtained.

We have derived the carrier distribution expression containing the nonradiative recombination velocity in the proton bombarded region, and calculated the carrier distribution profiles of various cases. They show that the theory taking into account of the nonradiative recombination velocity in the proton bombarded region is in better agreement with the experiment.

A new principle for TE waveguide CO2 laser tuning-tuning by pressure-is reported. It provides wide tuning range and easy operation. Here, we describe in detail construction of the laser system and give experimental results. A tuning range of about 1120 MHz has been obtained and the average output is 17 mW.
