We proposed to adopt high temperature laser plasma as an electron beam source. The evaluated results demonstrated that this electron source can be a millionfold as bright as thermal electron guns. The source may be useful to electron microscopy and free electron lasers.

A number of important problems concerning relaxation processes of the system are discussed, such as relaxation mechanism of intramolecular V-V processes in CO2,mechanism of significant effect of H2O on relaxation, resonant energy transfer between v1 and v2 modes of CO2, identity of relaxation data in compression, and expansion flows and possible nonequilibrium, among different vibrational levels in a mode and different rotational levels in a vibrational level. Problems that need further exploration are presented. This discussion is also found to be applicable to other laser systems.

Laser beam induced birefringence effects of several types of optical and laser glasses were investigated, optical Kerr coefficient nk and nonlinear refractive coefficient n2 of these materials at 1.06m are given. Analogous measurments at 0.53m were also made, the dispersion effect of these coefficients was found to be distinct.

Some types of copper vapor lasers using copper chloride as a lasant and flowing neon as buffer gas are reported. Two kinds of high repetition pulsed electric circuits have been used with an energy storage capacitor discharging: (1) directly through a laser tube, (2) through a pulsed transformer for output coupling. The maximum output power of a laser tube of 2.5 cm in diameter and electrode separation of 50 cm is 2.4W and the peak power 29 KW. The maximum output power of a laser tube of 1.1 em diameter and electrode separation of 30 cm is 1 W, and the peak power 5 KW, and it operates at an average power of 0.5 W for an accumulative period of about 100 hrs.

Investigation on up-con version of 10.6m radiation in proustite is reported. Under phase-matched conditions and pumped with a free-running pulsed ruby laser (λp= 0.6943μm) (W=0.2kW/cm2) the maximum power conversion efficiency is 1.6×10-5.The optimum phase-matching angle is 2630 10 and the curves η(Q) and η(W) were measured. The results are discussed.

A novel method for manufacturing Blumlein circuit in fast discharge gas lasers by thermopress-adhesion is described. The laminated flat made by this method is flexible and has fast rise time and high stability in discharge. Thus it is suitable for a fast discharge gas laser with improved output characteristics and can be made portable. Typical output parameters of N2 laser with this Blumlein circuit are given.

In the first part of this paper, the design and adjusting method for LC impedance matching network are presented. By this method, the power absorbed by the transducer from an oscillator can exceed 95%. In the optimum matching state, the modulation depth of zero order light can be up to 92% when LiNbO3-dense flint acousto-optic modulator is driven by 0.5 W BF power. In the second part, an oscillator circuit and its adjusting method are presented. Its frequency is continuously tunable over a range of 54.3~54.7 MHz and its stability is about (1~2)×10-6.

Waveguide tube is the core of waveguide lasers. Analysis, measurement and inspection of the waveguide tube precision are described in this paper. Requirements for minimizing the waveguide axis bending are given. The relation between the transverse deviation for the axial bending and the curvature radius of the waveguide is derived and the results of the measurement are given.

The characteristics are described of a simple transversely-excited atmospheric N2 laser in which Blumlein circuit and ceramic type capacitors are connected in parallel. The experimental results for the laser operating at 3371 A have been obtained. The effects of various material electrodes and capacitors on discharge and laser output power are also studied.
