The spectral distribution of XeF laser light was investigated with second order spectra of a 2M grating spectroscope, 90 laser lines were obtained, and 57 of them were observed for the first time.

The output characteristics of a TEA CO2 laser for various gas mixtures and various pump levels are quantitatively calculated using time-varying electron excitation coefficients. The calculation results are in good agreement with those of experiments. According to the theory of partial population inversion suggested by Polanyi, the conditions for partial population of CO2 molecules are discussed. The single peak of the output pulse for gas mixtures involving N2 is explained with the partial population inversion.

By means of the transformation circle diagram, a number of universal cavity configurations for solid state lasers are analyzed and assessed from the aspects of thermal insensitivity, mode property, compactness of configuration and utilization ratio of active medium.

By using a Q switched high power glass laser, SBS (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering) is observed before the appearence of damage in Nd glasses under our experimental conditions. However, SBS can not be regarded as the main mechanism for damage in Nd-doped glasses.

Two series of Nd-doped glasses Li2OBaOXP2O5 and 45RmO55P2O5 where R is alkali or alkaline earth element, were prepared, and their absorption and fluorescence spectra were measured. Based on the Judd-Ofelt theoretical model, the effects of various oxides on the fluorescence properties of Nd-doped phosphate glasses were studied. It was shown that the spontaneous radiative transition probability of Nd3+ increases with the decreasing of field strength of cations.

A method is described for obtaining high power, tunable dye laser output of narrow linewidth. The experimental set up is introduced on which high power output of 30mj and 520mj with linewidths of 0.03A°and 0.1A° have been obtained.

Investigation results on ultrashort pulses of a passively mode-looked Nd glass laser are presented in this article. The generation, selection and amplification of the ultrashort pulses are described in particular. The effects of dye cell, dye concentration and the transmissivity of the output mirror on mode locking have been studied. The amplification factor and the signal-to-noise ratio for pulses of 10 ps to 130 ps have been measured. Some of the experimental results on interaction between ultrashort pulses and plasma are also included.

The requirements of sealing for optical windows and laser cavity mirrors are briefly discussed in this paper and several sealing techniques in existence are compared.A technique of direct glass sealing for optical windows and laser mirrors is described and some sealing characteristics are presented.

The parameters for waveguide thin film of BaK2 glass prepared on a substrate of 10×75×2mm3 K9 glass were measured. The observed values Nm are in good agreement with the theoretical ones.

Some problems on parameter selection for stable monomode CO2 oscillators are discussed.

A description of the design, processing and compact and perfect configuration of longitudinal DKDP electro-optic modulators connected in series is given in detail. The technical performances of the modulators are particularly applicable for laser rangefinders.

Three methods, photothermal, photoelectric and thermoelectric methods for measurement of laser power and energy are reviewed. The performances of the available domestic and foreign devices are tabulated, and a brief comment is made on the future development of the measurement components and instruments.
