The heat transfer equation for electron beam window foil was solved taking into account the effect of heat exchange on the gas bourdary layer under the approximate bourdary condition at room temperature. Based on the solutions, the limitations to output beam intensity imposed by the window foil due to the heat effect were discussed respectively for pulsed or CW output of electron beams.

Characteristics of an unstable cavity filled with inhomogeneous media were studied by analyzing the frequency spectrum using an approximate method for thin samples. Frequency spectrum analysis and numerical calculations were made for some media with inhomogeneous distribution to a certain degree, useful results were obtained.

A CO molecular laser operating at room temperature was developed. The effects of temperature of lasing gases and discharge conditions on the laser output power, efficiency for energy conversion were studied.

It is shown that a laser will be continuously tunable from infrared to x-ray by relativistio Doppler effect of high energy ion beam in negative temperature state. The tunable range is △vT=2v’βγ. The threshold and parameters of lasers are considered. The methods to excite ion beam selectively are suggested.

A design structure of DO electrophoresis ultraviolet He-Cd laser operating at 4416 A° and 3250A° is described. The effects of helium gas pressure, temperature of cadmium vapor and discharging current on the laser output power are studied.

Following problems are discussed in this report: 1) It is proved by analysis that the regulation sensitivity of sandwioh holography is much lower than that of double plate holography. 2) The dependence of regulation sensitivity on the parameters of optical path are given. 3) For reference plane wave, it is proved that there is no distortion of image as certain approximate conditions are satisfied. 4) It is indicated that both sandwich and double plate holography have inherent defect of additional error because of the optical inhomogeneities in the substrate of the holographic plates.

Laser beam parameters, basic principles in the measurement and the measuring methods of these parameters are discussed as a He-Ne laser operates in TEM00 mode. These methods are also applicable for other lasers of CW output with small divergence angle.

A confooal spherical sweeping interferometer is used for analyzing laser frequency to discriminate the structure of transverse modes. The method can also be used for the analysis of longitudinal modes of laser beams.

The specific effects of atmospheric attenuation and turbulence expansion are studied on the basis of ranging equation. The results show that atmospheric attenuation has very serious influences and the effects of turbulence expansion on the rangefinder with a cooperative target can not be neglected. The prospects for CO2 laser rangefinder are discussed.

Some principles that must be taken into account in the design of adjusting mechanisms for optical instruments are described based on tenets of kinematics. A two dimensional adjusting mechanism for optical instruments was designed and a brief analysis was made on this system. Facts show that this two dimensional adjusting mechanism for optical instruments has the advantages of not only simple structure, easy processing, but also convenient adjustment, stability and reliabilty.
