A novel method is presented to measure the internal parameters of electrooptically Q-switched RF excited waveguide CO2 laser. The small-signal gain, internal losses, saturation intensity and ect can be measured by this method and it can also be applied to measure the parameters of other kinds of lasers.

In this paper, the relationship of the threshold power of the fiber source as a function of spectral width of this fiber source and parameters of the polarization maintaining fiber sensing coil was studied based on non-linear stimulated Brillouin scattering theory for the stimulated Brillouin scattering fiber optic gyros (SBS-FOG), which established theoretical foundation for investigating such fiber source conformation and constructing the system of the SBS-FOG.

A novel differential pump system is presented. Combined with a high efficiency, high spectral resolution large size transmission grating spectrograph, the differential pump system is especially suitable for the research of the ultrashort pulsed laser-gas puff target interaction. The experiments on soft X-ray spectral diagnosis of Ar puff target irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses are carried out. The results show that the spectrograph is a powerful tool of spectral diagnosis in experiments on the ultrashort pulsed laser-gas puff target interaction, optical-field ionization soft X ray laser, and high-harmonic generation.

A method of self-calibrating optic fiber′s optical path difference in the optic fiber interference measurement using LD as a light source is presented. It doesn′t need other instrument, just depends on its own measurement system to accurately calibrate optic fiber′s optical path difference. It can expand its measuring scope by using the calibrated length in the distance measurement system, and realizes long distance, high accuracy measurement without long guide.

A novel method and the experimental result of the vertical area partition for recording the elemental master holograms in a multiple-exposure rainbow holography are reported. By using this vertical area partition of the recording material to record the elemental master holograms in cycle, 3-D achromatic synthesis of a set of 2-D patterns can be reconstructed. Combined with a plane diffraction grating to compensate the horizontal dispersion during the reconstruction, a bright 3-D synthesized achromatic images with a wider vertical viewing angle, higher resolution, and lower color blur have been obtained in white light reconstruction.

In this paper, thermo-gravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are used to investigate the thermal stability of two kinds of the azo dyes in optical storage and optical recording mechanism. The TG analyses take place in a narrow temperature range. The DSC analyses show the rapid exothermic conversion having a threshold. The steep and large weight reduction, litter remains and definite threshold of the dye decomposition are of advantage to the optical recording signal modulation. It is demonstrated that TG and DSC are powerful tools to investigate the optical recording media.

The key, and probably the most difficult issue in optical CATV communication technology is how to make the optical unit qualify the requirements on nonlinearity distortion and noise in transport links. The principles of externally modulated transmitter are presented. The key technologies related to the method of using optically linearized modulator to achieve non-linearization compensation of optical CATV transmitter are mainly discussed, including the theoretical principles, system architectures, and factors affecting system performance (modulation index, time delay etc.).

This paper introduces the new principle of neighborhood corelation technique used for improving the laser warning resolution based on the laser warning device developed. After the receiving test of laser warning device, it was proved that the resolution had been double improved without changing the number of photodiode. Therefore the design requirement of neighborhood corelation processing technique has been satisfied and the resolution of laser warning has been improved.

The high quality polycrystalline AlN thin films have been deposited on the (100) and (111) Si substrates, the orientation relation between films and substrates was AlN(100)∥Si(100), AlN(110)∥Si(111) respectively. The AlN films have low residual stress and well thermal stability. The experimental result shows that the residual stress of AlN films prepared with 100×133.33 Pa nitrogen pressure and 650 V discharge-voltage was lower than 3 GPa. The infrared spectrum of the AlN films after annealed for 3 hours at 500℃ in pure oxygen atmosphere displayed the nonexistence of Al2O3. And the investigation of AlN/Cu dual-layer film showed the positive effect of AlN thin films on the protecting of metallic films.

In this work, an annealed proton-exchanged waveguide laser is designed and fabricated in x-cut Nd:MgO:LiNbO3. This waveguide laser is pumped by a laser diode at 814 nm with a coupling optics composed by a cylindrical lens and a microobjective. The optical feedback is provided by the polished endfaces alone. The threshold of the absorbed pumping power is estimated of 3.5 mW, and its slope efficiency in terms of total lasing as a function of absorbed pumping power is 16%. With the available pump power the laser can emit up to 1.2 mW without any photorefractive damage.

A method to incorporate a length of multimode fiber into a single-mode fiber linear cavity of Er3+-doped fiber lasers is proposed in the paper. Simultaneous multiwavelength stimulation is achieved by combining spatial mode beating among guided modes with the poliarization hole burning in the laser cavity. The 3-dB spectral linewidth is approximately 0.09 nm with wavelength spacing of 0.68 nm.

A Nd3+:YAG laser is pumped by a fiber-coupled and GRIN lens-focused diode-laser and the focal length of the equivalent thermal lens is measured by using unstable cavity method. Meanwhile, the theoretical model describing the thermal lens is extended to the situation that the pump light radius in the gain medium varies with distance. The calculated focal length of the thermal lens is inversely proportional to the pump power which is in conformity with the experimental result. The difference between them is also discussed.

The influences of several parameters, pump source power and wavelength, on bandwidth, flatness of SC and quality of pulses are investigated.

The second-order nonlinear optical material, 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) was synthesized. Measured results show that the space group of DNP is P212121 and the SHG efficiency of DNP is 5 times as large as that of KDP. The calculations of the second-order nonlinear optical polarizability β with CNDO/S-CI program reveal that the β is characteristic anisotropy, and the intramolecular charge transfer being responsible for the optical nonlinearity predominantly is from the hydroxy group to the nitro group in ortho position. The second-order nonlinear optical properties of 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP), and the relationship between the microscopic and macroscopic nonlinearity are also analyzed. The size of DNP crystals is up to 21 mm×17 mm×7 mm.

The first Stokes line 289 nm is generated by deuterium (D2) stimulated Raman scattering pumped by fourth harmonic Nd:YAG laser. By changing D2 pressure and pump energy, the conditions for 289 nm output were optimuzed. Based on differential absorption principle, a laser radar has been developed for monitoring tropospheric ozone using Stokes output at 289 nm and XeCl laser output at 308 nm. The distribution profiles of tropospheric ozone and their temporal variation are reported in this paper.

Single crystals of near morphotropic phase boundary compositions in the family of Pb-containing tungsten bronze ferroelectric oxide (1-x)Pb2KNb5O15-xSr2NaNb5O15 (PSKNN) have been grown, for the first time, using the modified Laser Heated Pedestal Growth technique. The lead volatility has been controlled and compensated through adjusting the laser power and the Pb-enriched target composition. Both [001], [100] and [110] direction oriented single crystals can be grown by using properly chosen seed crystals. The ferroelectric, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the grown single crystals are studied, and the morphotropic phase boundary composition in this solid solution family is discussed as well.

Cerium doped potassium titanyl phosphate crystals with optical quality were grown using a flux method. Optical transmission spectrum shows that the absorption of Ce:KTP in the blue domain was noticeable reduced. Using a coupling of SHG of a KTP crystal and SFG of Ce:KTP, the efficient coherent blue light was generated by a Nd:YAG single 1.32 μm beam as a pump and the overall efficiency is about 2.5%.
