Implementation of anamorphic FRT using HOE is presented. A holographic anamorphic cylindrical lens, which has different focus length along two perpendicular directions, is made. The focus length in different direction is able to change according to the conditions of the recording procedure. FRT with different fractional order along the different direction can be realized using this HOE. The condition to realising FRT using this HOE is discussed. A new optical security system is composed based on this HOE and the experiment results are given.

Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) suppression is one of the key technology in optical fiber AM-CATV externally modulated transmission system. In this paper, a novel two signal phase modulation for SBS suppression is presented. The theoretical analysis and calculation have shown that the two signal phase modulation is more efficient than the single signal phase modulation for the increase of SBS threshold. The choice of frequency in two signal phase modulation is also analyzed and calculated in this paper.

An optical image recognition system based on the volume holographic storage technology is constructed. It is applied to an “electronic guard” system based on the real-time human face recognition. It changes the conventional discriminating rule according to the intensities of the correlation peaks in volume holographic storage correlator, and uses the multivariate discriminant analysis based classification method so that the distortion invariance recognition ability is improved.

The intensity dividing readout (IDR) method for magneto-optical disks is analytically discussed. Compared with the differential readout method, the IDR method can eliminate the influence of the fluctuation of the laser power and the reflectivity on the thin film. Experimental results show that it′s a useful measuring method for evaluating magneto-optic media in the static test.

The effect of laser shock processing on the microstructure, hardness and residual stress of an austenitic steel 1Cr18Ni9Ti and a Ni-base superalloy GH30 is studied as a functions of laser shock processing variables. Results show that high density of dislocations and deformation twins are produced in the laser shock processed zone of both the austenitic steel 1Cr18Ni9Ti and the nickel-based superalloy GH30. Extensive strain-induced martensite plates are also observed in the laser shock processed zone of the austenitic steel surface. The hardness and compressive stress of the laser shock processed surface are significantly increased for both of the test materials.

In this paper a new method, that is, studying in vitro HpD two-photon fluorescence of cancer tissue using stimulation of femtosecond laser is reported. Femtosecond optical pulse generated by self-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser stimulates cancer tissue of little mouse injected HpD. The spectrum of two-photon fluorescence of HpD is observed. But there is no such spectrum in the corresponding normal tissue. The experiment shows that the method will be an effective method in diagnosing cancer field.

The experiment of pseudospark discharge is discussed in this article. The discharging gas in the switch of Marx generator is changed and hence the stability of discharge is enhanced. The insulation oil outside pseudospark discharge chamber is improved, then the beam with energy of 480 keV and beam current of 13 kA is obtained. The transmission distance of beam is 75 cm. It proves that wiggler field can improve the focusing quality of beam greatly.

A high power, narrow linewidth single frequency laser diode as one of the key elements of Integrated Optical Rotation Sensor (IORS) is studied. Both theoretical analysis and experimental research show that in order to achieve 1°/h resolution for rotation sensing, a strong optical feedback fiber Bragg grating laser diode (FBG-LD) with linewidth less than 1 MHz is selected as a light source of IORS. The characteristics of FBG-LD with strong optical feedback is analyzed for ensuring high power, single longitudinal mode, and narrow linewidth operation. Especially, the influence of the residual reflectivity of the feedback face on the power of FBG-LD is presented, and the effect of the coupling efficiency to the linewidth of FBG-LD is emphasized in this paper. A high power, narrow linewidth single frequency FBG-LD is designed and developed. Furthermore, the FBG-LD is applied in the experimental setup of IORS. The measured finesse of the resonator coincides with the calculated value.

Considering the fiber loss, an analytic expression of the cross-phase modulation induced chirp is derived. Evolution of chirp is simulated by computer and chirp as a function of the fiber loss and group-velocity mismatch is analysed. The results show that the chirp is little affected by the fiber loss and largely affected by the group-velocity mismatch; the chirp tend to stable evolved in the fiber.

The elliptical reflection method was used to measure the electro-optic coefficient of doped α′-cyano-4′-nitro-4-N,N-dimethylstibene (CNDS)/PMMA films. The decay of electro-optic signal of CNDS/PMMA films with an coated Al electrode was measured in situ. A slow relaxation process was observed in the first few hours of the decay. Possible reasons were discussed.
