A method of fabricating rough surfaces of known statistical parameters by exposing the photoresist to laser speckle patterns is analysed in this paper. A set of samples have been made successfully. These surfaces have a smoothly modulated profile which is amenable to the theoretical model of rough surface scattering. These specimens can also be used as phase screens.

PSTM is an optical microscopy which can produce superior resolution. The lateral resolution is determined by the diameter of the probe tip. But the tip figure also contributes to the resolution. In experiment, it has been found that the coupling efficiency of the parabolic tip is much higher than that of the truncated tip. In order to optimize the tip fabrication ,we systematically analyzed several kinds of tip figures by considering their energy coupling and model coupling. The numerical result is given.

Spatial light modulators are a fundamental device in optical information processing and optical computing. We have developed a matrix addressed ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator (FLCSLM) with 64×64 pixels, the dimensions of each pixel are 80×80 (μm), its contrast ratio exceed 60:1 and the frame rate exceed 27 Hz. The driver of FLCSLM also has been manufactured. It enables the FLCSLM to realize display in video rate under the control of computer.

An experimental system of the adaptive optical heterodyne using two domestic photorefractive crystals, an Ar + laser and an acoustic optical deflector are presented. The heterodyne output is observed and the experimental results for the detecting sensitivity, the self collimation character and the received view field of the system are given.

A method for fabricating zero order nulled silica grating phase masks for 248 nm KrF excimer laser is described. Perfect silica mask gratings with the period of 1.085 μm have been produced using bilayer resist and proper techniques for pattern transfer. Exprimental measurements show that the zero order diffraction efficience is less than 6%. Etch of silica substrates is performed by reactive ion etching in CHF 3/O 2. Theoretical analysis shows that these phase masks can be used for producing grating pattern by self-interference and for fabricating UV written fiber Bragg gratings.

  • In this paper, a new method of dark soliton transmission control by means of modulated Raman pump is presented. The results show: when the modulated Raman pump is sited following each amplifier, the random walk of dark solitons induced by amplifier spontaneous emission noise is reduced apparently, and the interaction between two dark solitons is suppressed well.

One kind of optical parallel negabinary arithmetic is investigated. Based on sign digit negabinary representation, the two step addition and one step subtraction of arbitrary length operands can be performed. The arithmetic is realized by logic operations and implemented by the spatial encoding technique, which offers an efficient design of optical arithmetic logic unit(ALU).

The present work proposes a method which can be used for a rapid calculation of the temperature field caused by a powerful laser during a superficial heat treatment. Using this result, we propose a method which can be used in order to assess the geometry of the hardened zone. These methods do not only allow us to calculate for any kind of beam energy repartition but also with a speed 100 times quicker than with traditional numerical methods.

A laser diode pumped 1.34 μm Nd:YVO 4 laser was reported. With KTP crystal for intracavity frequency doubling, a 670nm red laser was obtained. Parameters of KTP for second harmonic generation at 1 34 μm were calculated. Some methods of raising the conversion efficiency of intracavity frequency doubling were presented and analyzed.

In this paper, we analyse the effects of stimulated Raman scattering on the stable condition and soliton width of the fiber ring soliton laser locked by nonlinear polarization rotation. By solving the evolution equations, the stable condition and analytic expressions for soliton width of the passive mode locked fiber ring soliton laser are obtained.

Injection locking in copper vapor laser is studied numerically with a dynamic model, the effect of injected pulse power, width and delay time is calculated, and two important conclusions are obtained. One is that the optimum delay time should be consistent with the beginning of gain, the other is that the optimum pulse width should equal to the net gain width.

Effects of group velocity dispersion (GVD) induced chirp evolution and self phase modulation(SPM) induced chirp evolution as well as the combined GVD and SPM induced chirp evolution in the normal dispersion regime of single mode fibers are studied. We get analytic solution of GVD leading chirp and SPM leading chirp using Fourier transform algorithm. Numerical solution of the combined GVD and SPM leading chirp using numerical methods is obtained. The results show that chirped pulses can be compressed and dark soliton can be formed.

The twin beams with high quantum correlation at 1 08 μm wavelength have been generated from the semimonolithic KTP OPO pumped by a frequency doubled and frequency stabilized Nd:YAP laser The parametric frequency down conversion with the type ⅠⅠ 90° noncritical phase matching has been achieved in the α cut KTP for the 0 54 μm pump power. The quantum noise reduction of 80% (7 dB) around 1 5 MHz on the intensity difference between the twin beams has been observed The pump threshold for the OPO is about 80 mW.

In this paper, several models of the vertical profile of C 2 n were given using home made high sensitivity micro temperature apparatus. We discussed mainly the effect of atmosphere turbulence on the finite bandwidth of a wavefront compensative system when the wavefront phase of the plane wave went through the atmospheric turbulence in summer or in winter. The Strehl ratios for various bandwidths of the wavefront compensative system were given when a closed loop transfer function H(f) was used as a model of a closed-loop control system that processed the turbulence-induced wavefront distortions. For the low control bandwidth fc=40 Hz, the Strehl ratio could be large than 0.85. Although the wind speed of the free atmosphere in the winter was 40.0 m/s, much stronger than in summer, the difference of the Strehl ratio in the two seasons was small.

Photorefractive four wave mixing with rapidly amplitude modulated beams is studied theoretically. The analytical solutions for the stead state equations of four wave mixing with an arbitrary complex coupling constant are given without the undepleted pump approximation. The output intensities of the phase conjugate beam and the transmission beam of the signal are simulated.
