This paper describes the experimental study of a tunable liquid-crystal-etalon filter. The liquid crystal Fabry-Perot optical filter was developed that has narrow bandwidth (0.3~0.5 nm), high fineness (100~200) and a large continuously tunable range (>70 nm).

A Simple method for enhancing fiber grating temperature sensitivity using an aluminum tube or aluminum plate packaging is presented. Bragg wavelength shift of about 0.038 nm/℃ was measured for fiber gratings at 1550 nm within 0 ℃ to 120 ℃. This represents an improvement in temperature sensitivity that is more than 3 times than that could be achieved with a bare fiber grating.

Laser cladding of NiCrBSi alloy coating on the 45 steel has been performed with a 2 kW CO2 laser. The result shows that with TEM and X-ray diffraction the phases are similar in the whole fusing region of the laser cladding. But in the transition layer the phase are different from those of the fusing region.

In this paper we analyse the dynamics of formation of ananometer-size materials by excimer laser ablation. Starting from the temperature field of the materials and taking Al and Cu as ablation examples, the processes of the production of the nanometer-size materials are researched.

As the development of railway technologies is oriented to high speed and heavy haul, it is required to upgrade the performance of car parts as well as their manufacturing process. This paper tries to explain through wear plate as an illustrative example that laser strengthening is among the essential substrtitutes for traditional production process.

After the pretreatment of neonatal rat islet-like cell clusters (ICCs) with irradiation of an excimer laser and an ultraviolet beam (UVB), the immunogenecity of islet was significantly reduced, especially in the excimer laser group. Morphological examination of the pretreated islets revealed that the secretory granules and subcellular structures remained intact, and the insulin secretion function of the pretreated islets showed no significant difference with that of the control group. The islet allotransplantation in STZ-induced diabetes rats indicated that the diabetes remission period of the rats of the excimer laser group was significantly longer than that of the UVB group and the control group.

A design method of system parameters of unstable ring resonators with 90° beam rotation is discussed in this paper, and an effective method of allgment of the resonator is also gaven. Good output far-field intensity distributions of the UR90 resonator with the magnification M=1.21 and 1.3 are observed in the copper vapor laser. The reverse mode is successfully suppressed on the UR90 resonator while the polarization state of the reverse mode remains by a reinjection system.

We report a high efficiency CW single frequency ring Ti:sapphire laser pumped by an argon ion laser. By 5.0 W pumping, more than 0.5 W stable single frequency output is attained. The conversion efficiency is over 10%. The characteristics of the intracavity frequency-control elements, the optical unidirectional device, the birefringent filter, and the etalons, are analyzed. The optimum pumping is discussed by considering the thermal effect produced by the Ti:sapphire. Also, the tuning range, the linewidth, and the output stability of the laser are measured.

An axis-asymmetric positive confocal resonator with a one-dimensional variable reflectivity mirror (1D VRM) for the (Nd,Ce):YAG slab laser is proposed and compared experimentally with the plane-plane resonator and the positive confocal resonator with a rotationally-symmetrical variable reflectivity mirror (2D VRM). It has been shown that the 1D VRM positive confocal resonator is suitable for slab lasers because both output efficiency and beam quality can be improved.

An investigation was made of pulse stimulated emission at two wavelengths 627.8 nm and 312.2 nm from a gold vapor alser with a discharge tube of 980 mm long and the internal diameter 28 mm. The experimental points for the laser emission of the red and UV lights were obtained at the same time, using a specific resonator containing a mirror with high reflectivities at 627.8 nm and 312.2 nm, at a repetition rate of 8 kHz. When the average output power at 627.8 nm was 2.3 W, the average output power at 312.2 nm was 300 mW. The 28 mm diameter red and UV output beams have a divergence of 3 mrad.

The pumping laser pulse of narrow pulse-width together with its leading edge shape as well as parameters of the two-cell stimulated-Brillouin-scattering (SBS) systems have an influence on the SBS pulse intensity and conversion efficiency. Two narrow pulses with different leading edges pump the two-cell systems simultaneouly. Bu changing the amplifier-cell length and the focal length, different conversion efficiencyies were observed. The two SBS pulses results are analyzed with transient seeded Stockes in the amplifier-cell. A method to design the two-cell systems is proposed.

By solving the one dimension short range time dependent Schrodinger equation, the ionization probability, population of bound states and harmonic spectra of atom under different laser intensities are studied. It shows that the ionization of atom is good for harmonic generation. Harmonic emission is generated from the jump of electrons from continum states to the ground state, both the ionization and population are oscillating, but with different directions.

Wilh Collins diffraction integral formula in the paraxial approximation, the analytical expressions for the linearly polarized Bcssel-Gauss beam and the azimuthally polarized Bessel-Gauss beam through any axisymmetrie optical system that can be described by an ABCD ray transfer matrix are giyen in this paper. For example, the propagation characteristics of these two kinds of Bessel—Gauss beams through an optical system with a lens are compared by a numerical calculation. And the results are also analyzed and discussed.
