Using high- power pulsed laser- produced plasma as a soft X- ray source forproximity lithography is described in this paper. By applying positive resist PMMA, somesubmicron lithography experiments are carried out.

    The surface roughness of the very thin Si films deposited on the K9 glass and thesilicon wafer using planar magnetron sputtering has ben measured by ZYGO and scatteringmethods. A saturated value of the roughness of the very thin Si films on the K9 glass isillustrated.

    Characterization of proton- exchanged optical planar waveguides in z- cutLiNbO3 fabricated using stearic acid and effects of annealing on the index profile,thewaveguide depth, the surface index changed and propagation loss have been studiedsystematically. Waveguide propagation losses decrease with annealing time and the variationin the surface refractive index and waveguide depth with annealing time follows a power lawrelationship.The annealing process is shown to be an effective means of improving and modifying waveguide properties.

    This paper introduces the principles of pulse chopping with fast-response electrooptic deflectors. Laser pulses with a wide range of desirable pulse-width can be obtainedeasily using this method. Dependence of pulse-width upon light beam focus spot, size ofchopping hole and scan velocity is discussed theoretically.Chopped from a Q- switch singlelongitudinal mode pulse with 20 ns pulse-width by using a φ0. 36 chopping hole, a short lightPulse with a pulse-width 280 ps and rise-edge 140 ps is realized experimentally.

    The detailed calculation makes possible the design and the proper selection ofworking parameters of the Wollaston prisms of a Nomarski light polarized interferometerwhen an ultrashort light pulse as a coherent source is used. The properties of theinterferometer are also presented when the prisms are in different places in the light way.

    This paper discusses the diffractive characteristics of the deep-etch continuousphase relief microoptical elements. The preliminary results about the ralationship betweenthe profiles of the deep-etch elements and the diffraction efficiency are presented. This mayprovide useful guidance for the fabrication of the elements.

    A digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) hoed on a double-pulsed Nd:YAG laser system has been approached. The synchronized control of transient displacementof a test object and pulse trigger of the laser as well as the image capture with a framegrabber has been realized. It is shown that the dynamic displacement within lms may berecorded and analysed quantitatively with the double-pulse DSPI technique.

    Fast control of optical banyan networks needs transformations between perfectshuffle networks and optical banyan networks.In this paper,mapping rules of nodes,links,inlets and outlets are given when optical banyan networks are transformed to perfect shufflenetworks and perfect shuffle networks are transformed to optical banyan networks. Electrical implementation of all these mapping rules is presented.

    A 1. 55 μm fiber soliton laser is described and the transmission experiment of thefiber soliton pulse by using it as an amplifier is also introduced.A mode locked erbium fiberlaser is used in the experiment. Experimentally, the output pulse width and spectrum widthof the fiber soliton laser are 30 ps and 0.16 nm, respectively. There is nearly no change forthe output pulse width and the spectrum width after the transmission of a 50 km dispersive displacement optical fiber.

    We report on a β- barium borate(BBO)optical parametric oscillator injectionseeded with a narrow bandwidth pulsed Ti:sapphire laser.This device is pumped by onlyone Nd: YAG laser.The pump source of the Ti:sapphire laser is the residual secondharmonic(532 nm) in frequeney-tripling(355 nm,OPO's pump source)of the Nd: YAGlaser.As the Ti:sapphire laser does not consume other energy,thus the overall energyconversion efficiency is high.The signal coversion efficiency is up to 25%, and a narrow bandwidth (<0.01 nm) continuous tunning range of 589~892 nm is achieved.

    Gain modulation response and cascaded amplification characteristics of Erbiumdoped fiber amplifiers(EDFAs)are experimentally studied.It is shown that the amplitudeand frequency responses of EDFAs are linear and low-Pass(cutoff frequency less than 1kHz),respectively.The transmission characteristics of the low-frequency modulated linesignal are high-pass(cutoff frequency larger than 200 Hz).

    The experimental results of low frequency optical noise and electrical noise andtheir correlation of 1. 3 μm InGaAsP/InP superluminescent diodes fabricated by us aregiven. These results are analysed and discussed in combination with electrical derivative,optical derivative and spectrum measurement. The results demonstrate that the lowfrequency optical noise and electrical noise of superluminescent diedes are correlative, andthe noises are related to the material quality of the dieodes, structure parameters and operation conditions.

    In this paper,a theoretical random walk model for the metal vapor condenser ofmetal vapor lasers is presented.The proposed model was verified qualitatiively byexperiment.Based on this model,a new type of condenser was proposed. Its principle is asfollows:several metal pieces of high metal vapor condensation coefficients were used toadsorb the random walking metal vapor particles that collide upon them, as a result,aprotection of the laser windows from the metal vapor pollution was achieved. A Monte Carlo simulation showed that the ability of antipollution for this new type condenser was much higher than that of the common condenser.

    Uridine and adenosine were excited to the first electronically excited state)using the the output of a frenquency-quadrupled Nd: YAG laser(266 nm),and interactedwith the phenylalanine in the mixed solution with equal mol-concentration. Because of thedifference of molecular polarization and structure between the excited uridine andadenosine, the efficiency of exciplex formation and the energy-transfer efficiency betweenthese two kinds of nucleosides and phenylalanine are different,yielding remarkable differences of the fluorescence spectra.

    A high Verdet constant Faraday rotator glass has been studied in this work. Based on a Tb2O3-B2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 system and using the special techniques, a 0.5L sizesample of high Vetdet constant glass TG28 with high optical quality could be obtained inplatinum crucible. Experimental results show that the Verdet constant of TG28 is as high as -97.44 Rad/T·m.

    Glasses of absorbing X-ray and lasers are studied. Optical properties,absorptionspectra, X-ray aborption and physical-chemistry properties of the glasses are measured. Experimental result shows that the lead-borosilicated glass doped with Ta2O5 is promising forabsorption of X-ray and 1. 06 μm lasers.
