The investigation of the paper includes the measurements of the deposition rate ofPt films deposited by ion- beam sputtering at different deposition parameters andtemperatures. It was found that deposition rate increases with the increase of the substratetemeperature. Using the physical and chemical adsorption theory, we discussed thisphenomenon.

In order to improve the anti-strong-laser-daxnage ability of (HgCd)Te detectors, a new technique has been proposed based on Franz-Keldysh effect. And a simple automaticprotection scheme using this technique has also been given in this paper. ExperimentalresultS show that this new technique is more effective and can be used to improve (HgCd)Te detectors' anti-strong-laser-damage ability in a large range.

In a bent single-mode fiber, lateral compressive stress under the conditions oflarge deformation induces a birefringence >β. This Permits us to conceive devices which are, for fiber optics, the analogue of fractional wave plates of classical optics. In the meantimewe designed a polarimeter to measure the bending-induced bireflingence and realized aquarter wave plate at λ=1.55 μm with a two-turn optical fiber loop of 26 mm indiameter.

Using a light ray tracing, this paper presents the matrix expression for an electrooptic deflector. It is the extension of the famous ABCD matrix expression for Gaussianoptics, but includes the possibility of considering a time-dependent element for the deflector.A Pulse shaping system is studied with theory of matrix optics, which is constructed mainlyby a pair of deflectors. Finally make demands on the accordance of two deflectors'parameters, synchronization precision between electronical pulses added to the deflectors, and positions of the deflectors in the pulse shaping system are presented.

The polarized optic fiber sensor, which possesses the characteristics of simplestructure and high sensitjvity and can be embedded into composite materials conveniently, isvery fit to be used in arrays of smart sensors. In this paper, the stability of polarized opticfiber sensors is studied through the mode coupling characteristics of optic fibers.

Persistent spectral hole burning was realized at room temperature for Nile Bluemolecules doped polymer microparticles based on morphology-dependent resonance. Themicropartical-based hole burning system may be promising for the development of thefrequency domain room temperature optical-storage materials.

In this paper, we introduce a composite filter for addition and subtraction ofimages. The filter consists of a Ronchi grating and an off-axis Fresnel zone plate. Thetransmission function is logic XOR operation of the Ronchi grating function and the Fresnelzone plate function. This method for images addition or subtraction has some advantages ofsimple optical setup, convenient adjusting and capability of processing large images. The principle of images addition and subtraction of using this filter is discussed. The fabricating method and the experimental results are reported.

A small-signal single-pass power gain of 14.76 and double-pass power gain of 26.31 have been measured for a Ti:sapphire amplifier. The results correspond to thesmall-signial gain coefficient being 1.81 cm-1 and the gain cross section being 2.74×10-19 cm2. The small-siginal gains for different wavelengths have been obtained. Thesaturation fluence and optimum length of Ti:sapphire have been calculated.

A Flashlamped-pumped Cr: LiCAF laser is described. A slope efficiency as highas 2.20% as well as a 1.36% energy efficiency are reported. It is shown that higherconcentration of Cr+3 ions contributes to the improvement of the laser performences. Self- Q-switched operation is also observed in the experiment.

A detailed theoretical and experimental investigation of an injection-seeded BBOoptical parametric oscillator (OPO) is undertaken. We find that the injection-seeding notonly reduces the linewidth of the laser output, but also lowers the OPO's threshold andimproves the conversion efficiency. The theoretical results agree with the experiments verywell.

The analytic expression of gain for both frequencies in non-steady state waveguidefree electron lasers is derived by taking into account axial energy spread of electron beams. The approximate explicit expression is also given. They agree well with numericalsimulations. Based on the non-steady state gain, the necessary detuning of cavity length tocounteract the effect of lethargy is estimated, and the mechanism of self mode--locking isexplained clearly in time domain.

We report CW laser beam self-pumped phase conjugation (SPPC) induced by aphotorefractive waveguide created by SPPC of CW mace- locked laser radiation inphotorefractive crystal Cu: KNSBN. After a waveguide is created in the crystal by usingthe second harmonic of a CW mode-locked Nd: YAG laser at 532 urn, self--pumped phaseconjugation can be achieved by using the same wavelength CW laser beam at some incidenceangles where SPPC cannot be achieved by using the CW laser beam alone. The lifetime ofthe photorefractive waveguide is longer than 30 minutes under dark conditions.

We observed the frequency upconversion of a 1313 nm Nd:YLF laser pulseinto 780 nm through the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in Er3+-doped and Er3+/Yb3+-doped germanosilcate single-mode optical fibers pumped by a CW mode-locked (CW+ML) laser and a Q-switched mode-locked (QS+ML) laser, respectively. The emission at780 nm corresponds to 4I9/2-4I15/2 transition, and its pumping mechanism is accomplishedby a first step resonant two-photon absorption to 4F9/2 state, fo]lowed by a fast nonradiative relaxation to 4I9/2 state. The conversion efficiency of 1313 nm light into 780 nm light pumped by the CW+ML laser is higher than pumped by the QS+ML laser with the peak laser power being several hundred times higher.

A novel phenomenon of self-enhancement of reflectivity of a self-pumped Phaseconjugator during the time interval in which no light illuminates the conjugstor is observed. The response time of self-pumped phase conjugators of Ce-doped or Mn-doped pottasiumsodium strontium barium niobate (KNSBN) single-domain crystal is shortened obviously byusing an intermittent light. The qualitative explanation about experimental results is givenusing a fundamental charge carrier migration model via the measurement of photovoltaic and pyroelectric fields. Some further experiments have been done to support our analysis. The reduction of conjugation fidelity of the self-pumped phase conjugators is also explained in terms of a photo-induced internal field.

The influence of the concentration of ammonium dichromate in the postprocessing on the DE of methylene blue sensitized gelatin (MBG) is investigated. The UVand IR spectra show no serious difference between the exposed films with and withoutdichromated post-processing. Little content of chromium is discovered in the X-ray spectrumof the exposed MBG. On the basis of these results, the mechanism of the formation of thehologram is discussed.

In this paper, photorefractive effect in a doped polymer system with a low glasstransition temperature (Tg) is reported. Photoconductivity of a PVK-C60 thin film has beeninvestigated and electro-optic coefficiency of a PVK-nitroazobenzene thin film has beenmeasured. Optical degenerate four-wave mixing and two-beam coupling experiments havebeen done in the thick film of PVK-C60-nitroazabenzene-dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Thediffraction efficiency of 1. 5% for the four-wave mixing was obtained under a relatively low field of 16.4 V/μm. The experimental results reveal that the plasticizer, DBP, effectively enhanced the photorefrective effect by an orientational mechanism, and the property of the photorefractivity of the material has been improved.
